Flaky,

I bought this card as it was on sale and I got it for $9.99 I was expecting Windows XP Pro to recognize the card as soon as inserted it but it didn't. I had to use the installation CDROM that came with it. Installation was a breeze. One of the first things I came to know when using the card was its limited range. I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router and it is placed high enough from the ground with minimal obstruction. Compared to the Cisco AIR-CB21AG-A-K9 (which I already have) the range of this card is very less. Other issue I had was the software to control the card. If you decide to use the motorola's wireless utility to configure the wireless connection, the connection is flaky and the connection is dropped frequently. However, if you use Windows to confgiure the wireless connection then connection does not drop that frequently. Overall I give it a 3 stars.

Works with Airport on your Mac,
This review is from: Motorola Wireless Notebook Adapter WN825G (Personal Computers)
THis particular card will work on any G3 or G4 Apple powerbook with a pcmcia card slot, all the back to the wallstreet maybe even the 1400. Just plug it in and OS X. will recognize it as an airport device. Very easy to configure!!

Fine piece of wireless gadget,
This review is from: Motorola Wireless Notebook Adapter WN825G (Personal Computers)
I got the card last week and tried it out with office network first, it works very fine (IBM ThinkPad and WinXP pro). Configuration is very easy and step by step as the installer CD recommended. No complication at all, though you need a little knowledge on networking since the manual won't provide much detail... But so far, the automatic configuration makes it very easy and you can be up and running in under 10 minutes! It is very reasonable price for the 11g card comparing its performance to other more expensive ones. Connection is very much reliable too.I'm still very excited for it and couldn't wait to have a wireless router at home. So I just grabbed one last night, Motorola again (WR850G)! It works so great!!!

Motorola WN825G - an excellent WiFi PC Card,

I have had my WN825G wireless lan card (WiFi, 802.11g) since earlier this year. I use the card with my Linksys WRT54G. I have owned a number of 802.11b and 802.11g cards, and this one is the best one I have used yet. Signal strength is consistently superior to my other cards. Data speed and throughput are excellent. I have made direct comparisons between WiFi PC Cards in the same machine, connected to the same WRT54G, swapping out one card for the other in short order. I recommend it highly.I cannot comment on ease-of-use. I am a lightweight techie, so messing around with drivers is actually somewhat enjoyable. I used the Moto capabilities first. I'm not 100% sure I have ever used it in pure XP mode. I like the capabilities offered by the Moto utilities, especially the ability to monitor signal strengths to a number of WiFi hubs, and to track signal strengths over time. Note: I have not used any MIMO products, so these comments and comparisons are limited to pre-MIMO products.

I first purchased a Netgear router and pmcia card and , after endless frustration trying to get it to work I finally sent it back and ordered the Motorola router and card. The latter was relatively easy to install with the clear instructions that came with it and I have had no problems since.

Plug it in, run the software, let Moto manage the connection and you are good to go. Best card I have ever owned. I had one that was dropped with the laptop. The card was obviously broken and it still worked! I replaced the card because it would not get a strong signal, but I was amazed that the card still connected to the network even after it was broken.

I just received the Motorola Wireless adaptor and it works perfectly for my older Mac PowerBook G4. The internal AirPort card on my G4 was loosing signal as it aged, and a quick and inexpensive solution was to order this card. It uses the Broadcom chip set, so it's a perfect match for the Mac AirPort card. As soon as I inserted it into the card slot, the computer recognized it as an AirPort card. Very little set up was needed and now I have so much better wireless reception, that I can actually get a signal from a couple of neighbors homes. This is a great option for an aging AirPort card, at a price that's about a quarter that of replacing the original AirPort card...that is if you could even locate one that was new, and didn't have months or years of use already on it, and therefore, may be in the same condition as the one you'd be replacing. There may not be a big demand for this card, but if you are seeking an easy remedy for increasing the wireless range on your G3 or G4 PowerBook ... this is it.

Bought this for my powerbook G4 and it works great! Way faster than the installed airport and I can actually connect in my room which I couldn't do previously on the obsolete airport card. Now I can actually go to a coffee house and connect to their network. No installation just plug and play baby.

Bringing new life to an old Mac G3!,
This review is from: Motorola Wireless Notebook Adapter WN825G (Personal Computers)
I did a little research online and found that this wifi card was plug and play compatible with the Powerbook G3 (Lombard). I am currently running OS 10.2.8 and all I had to do to add wifi to my G3 was plug in the wifi card in the PCMCIA (PC Card) slot, power on the G3, choose "ok" when a box came up on my screen telling me that an airport was detected and I was online in literally 2 minutes.Because the G3 Lombard was never sold with an internal Apple airport slot, it has taken some time and trial and error for those out there to find the perfect wifi cards that require no drivers for OSX that a person literally can slap in their PC slot on the G3 and use, and this card does just that. Unfortunately, I have no newer updates of Safari and/or Firefox I can download on the G3 because of my older OS, but after cruising around the net, if you don't require websites that let you view much video, you will be fine. YouTube is a bit choppy but that is more of the hardware limitations of the G3 only having 8MB of video RAM and has nothing to do with the card. This card meets the wifi "g" speed level so on a newer PC or Mac, things will feel more speedy. Most other websites run just fine, eBay, google searches, yahoo news, etc. What I don't know is if this card will work with any OS older than 10.2. I am guessing that it would as I think the airport drivers are build into OSX or 10.0 software but don't quote me on it. So if you have a G3 Lombard or Pismo, this card makes for an inexpensive alternative to an Apple airport card. There are several cheap, new Motorola cards you can buy here on amazon and I paid around $13 delivered for the card I bought from one of the vendors. I could imagine this this price was possibly 1/3 the price of the card when it first came out. I am just happy that I now have a reason to not sell the Lombard and could still find some use for it with the addition of wifi. Well done Motorola!

I got 2 of these the middle of Feb., one for my Toshiba PC and one for my non airport equipped Mac Pismo laptop.PC: Upon plugging it in and trying to use it's software. I removed it and let Microsoft do the work and it has worked just fine in my PC laptop. Upon plugging it in my Mac and firing it up it was both recognized as a external device and as an internal wireless modem. It thinks it is an airport card and fires up just like my airport card does in my other Pismo but at "G" speeds. Shipping was fast and well packaged and the price was great too. |
