I've carried around many military radios weighing 7-10 times this thing's weight and not been able to get out over a couple miles. (The MIL AN/PRC-77, affectionately nicknamed the "Prick-77" was a beast for a radio and was usually not reliable with terrible battery life).
These Motorola's are simply spectacular and the battery life on these units is really exceptional. I was a bit skeptical because I don't like paying $400 for a set of radios...but...when you really need to rely on your commo, this will do it...and then some. (Oh yeah, this radio can operate seamlessly with all Motorola Spirit professional two-way radios, including all radios in the Spirit M-Series, the Spirit GT, the Spirit HP, the Spirit Pacer, and the Spirit S-Series).

Excellent product. We have used the XV1100 for many years for our faculty/staff around our school 50 acre campus.
