Well my old 550plus from Nextel/Motorola died a tragic death. In its place I got the i530 in yellow. Great little phone.. easy to get used to .. works great, great battery life, (the 550plus was lucky to last 6 hours before battery was dead).Great sturdy design too. Love it.

Warranty? What warranty?,
This review is from: Motorola i530 Yellow Phone (Nextel) (Wireless Phone)
I had been very happy with my Motorola phone until the battery started losing its charge within a day, even when the phone was turned off. The friendly but incompetent customer support kept me on the phone for an average of 40 minutes for the repeated calls trying to figure out the problem. After the phone had finally been sent to their technical service center, they returned it to me that the phone was irreperable "due to customer abuse." I have done nothing to that phone that could have caused any damage (unless using it to make phone calls counts as "customer abuse"), but got the same comment, without explanation after I had sent the phone in for a second time for reevaluation. It seems that Motorola is just trying to get out of fixing or replacing the phone free of charge under warranty. You'll be fine with a Motorola phone as long as it works. After that, you're on your own.

An Above Average Phone,

I did have the i730, but i got terrible signal strength with that. So i traded down to the i530. I love this phone. I've had great signal wherever i've gone. I live in Kentucky, so i go into city area's and rural area's but i have had no problem. i love the two way radio, saves $ on the phone bill. Also the cool GPS tracker. The phonebook holds 600 #'s, i will never fill it up. The only downfalls with this phone is the battery. I use my phone all day and i have to charge it every night, if i didnt then it would die on me the next day. also no belt clip comes with this phone. other than that i would recommend this phone to everyone, just but a car charger, it will save your life. my dad and grandfather went out and got the i530 too. Save your $, dont buy the i730, get the i530

I love my Nextel i530. Purchased it almost a year ago now. I am in northern Ohio and travel many places around the state. No matter where I have gone, and I take my phone everywhere with me, I have yet to find a place where my phone doesn't have Nextel service. Also, very durable phone. I live on a farm here, and we use the two-way often to communicate. My phone in particular has been dropped several times, once off a grain bin onto concrete 35 feet below, and once also driven over by four wheeler in mud. Still works like new. I am extremely happy with Nextel's service and phones. I know several other people with different model Nextel phones and also can't complain. I would definitely recommend Nextel over Verizon, Alltel, Cingular, and Sprint. Other companies have such cheap phones it seems. It's a shame that Sprint and Nextel merged - from my experience with Sprint, they are terrible with no service anywhere, and their phones suck too.

If you are looking for a phone that can withstand dropping (twice) water, and dust, this is for you. Nice grip, classy design, I have the bumblebee version in yellow and black. Vibrate option, can use DC either as walkie-talkie or more privacy is optional by pushing a button and using DC as a phone where only you hear. Six hundred entries, web access, no color screen, but no biggie on that.
Buttons solid, phone is a little larger than most phones ,but worth it . Nextel service is great.!

Gotta love the $200 rebate. Actually made $75 on the phone. That paid for my activation and first month's fees.
Phone is great. More durable than the newer i730. My wife loves the yellow color. She can find it quickly in her purse. I called the 800 Nextel number to setup the phone once it arrived. The customer service lady was very friendly and helpful. It took only 15-20 minutes to get the phone active with a number. I ported my home land line and was told it was going to be 4-6 weeks and they gave me a temporary number. Well everything was changed over in less than a week.

I am a self-proclaimed klutz and have broken multiple phones in the past by dropping, sitting on or other ways. I have not had any problems with the i530 to this date. I have dropped it multiple times, once down a flight of stairs and it works every time I pick it up again. As long as the service is good in your area (...) you will not have any complaints with this phone. I have not charged it in 3 days of heavy usage and it finally is giving me low-battery warnings. If you have coworkers, friends etc with nextel and are thinking of this phone, I would recommend it to anyone.

I have used the i530 for a little over two years and have had no problems with the unit, or with NEXTEL's service. To simplify your reading, here is a list of pros and cons.
Cons: A little chunky; Lacks up to date features and tech (such as color screen, external display, etc.); Battery life is nothing to write home about. Pros: Durability (been dropped off a roof, still going strong); Looks (yellow model); Call quality is excellent; Good speakerphone; Digital 2-way is a great feature. Overall, I am very satisfied with my i530. The only issue among the cons that is of any real concern is the battery life, but this is characteristic of most NEXTEL phones - perhaps due to the nature of the iDEN network on which they operate. Even after two years, my original battery lasts more than a day with moderate use. A pain? Slightly, but given the advantages of NEXTEL, its worth remembering to charge up more often. Please beware of several overly negative reviews on NEXTEL posted below - my experience with their coverage, customer service, etc. has been very positive. Just make sure you do your homework with respect to coverage before you sign up with any wireless company. Go with the one that gives the best coverage in the areas in which you live, work, or travel. It's always best to actually put the printed coverage maps to the test with a real phone. Some providers are overly optimistic. NEXTEL's maps are pretty legit, at least as far as I have discovered.

Motorola should recall this, or remove the battery-- makes a great paperweight!,

My office has numerous i530 phones that came with our contract. No person in our office has ever commented on how much they like this phone or its performance. Battery life is terrible out of the box, the interface is clunky, and our personal phones with half the bulk have at least twice the overall performance. If everything else in your life is perfect then this phone is for you-- it will give you SOMETHING to complain about. For the rest of us consider other models or other manufactures to work with your Nextel/Sprint network contract.

Nextel and Motorola have developed the ultimate "ultra cool, super sleek, power attitude, great phone w/the i530. Not only does it have consistent great sound quality on calls, but the ability to quickly contact other Nextel friends or relatives with a single push of the Direct Connect button makes other phones "just another phone".
**By the way, the Direct Connect (2 way radio) is usable in FULLY PRIVATE mode by simply pressing 1 button. The speaker turns off, you hold the phone to your ear, you scroll to the name of the bud you wish to contact, you push the button to talk and release it to listen and NO ONE has to hear your fast Direct Connect conversation. All Nextel phones have the privacy button for Direct Connect. It makes voice mail such a waste of our time. That is how I use my Nextel all day at work in the office, I also keep mine on silent vibrate mode for totally discrete private use. Look at any volunteer fireman/firewoman, construction person, cop, or young Jr High/HS kid in the Westchester/Dutchess/Rockland/Putnam County, NY region: you'll see a Nextel on their belt or in their hand. It is THE PHONE where I live. Just try one. They have so many plans you will find one you like. |
