i60c good if it was 1997,
By A Customer
This review is from: Motorola i60c Phone (Nextel) (Wireless Phone)
The Nextel service itself appears to be good if not better than other providers this review is for the phone itself. This is important seeing this is what you will be using from day to day.The Moto i60c is a very bulky phone by 2001 standards. Typical flip phones are smaller and offer much more options than this. The display is rather dark; there is no outside display you have to open it to see who's calling thus meaning you have to disable auto answer. There is an extremely limited feature set on this phone. Some reviewers said that the battery life was good they're either working for Moto or never use the phone. The battery life is terrible, the phone sat in my desk all weekend, a full charge Friday at 5PM and it was dead by Monday morning, never used or received any calls. This phone might be good if this was 1997 but its 2004 and technology is there for a smaller lower costing phone with better battery life and more options.

A good, utilitarian phone...,

For those who just want a phone without the hassle of tons of options, it's a good phone. I've had the phone for almost two years, and I've never had a problem with it. It's fairly rugged, dependable, and an ok battery life.
Only problems: shorter battery life, monochrome display, no external display, and cannot be opperated while closed.

Complete Crap,

I've had this phone for over a year now. I don't make or receive many calls, but when I do it's a crap shoot. The phone will chirp and shut off for no good reason. It said the battery was low and shut off when it was almost a full charge.
I have had to pop the battery out to reset the phone several times just to get it to work. One time it locked-up and wouldn't even shut off without removing the battery. I have had no problems with the push-to-talk feature. My husband has this same phone and has no problems, so it's entirely possible I have a lemon of a phone. I would never recommend this phone to anyone.

Never had a problem,

I have had my i60 phone for almost 2 years. I have had no problems what so ever with it. The only thing I would like it to have is more options to customize it. Other than that it is perfect.

Bad internal speaker,

I am having speaker problems with this phone.... so much that I am thinking of trashing it. The internal speaker does not get activated most of the times when you make a call... and once in a while you can switch on the speaker-phone speaker. The same goes for receiving calls.Looking at a cheap, no frills, no problem phone for Nextel service..... Suggestions welcome.

I am very happy to have this phone, and completely satisfied with it't perfomance. It is not my first cell phone, but is my first Nextel. It does all that I hoped it would do.

Great phone,

Although the i60 does not have a screen on the front to see who is calling, this is a great phone. I have had no problems with it, and get great reception. The battery lasts for days. Nextel offers nationwide direct connect and most of their plans offer free nights and weekends which is great. I have been with Nextel for almost 3 years and I have not encountered any problems with their service or their phones. I would definately recommend this phone.

WARNING,

My problems with nextel did not stop when I canceled my service. I will get to the problems with the service. When I went to get a new phone a day before my contract expired, I of course wanted to keep my number. So as I went to get my Cingular phone (highly recommended), I had the old number switched to my new number. Today, I get in the mail my nextel statement for the month with a $200 early termination even though I had not canceled my service, but had simply got a new phone and switched my number over. This was on icing on the cake after 2 years of absolutely amazingy bad service from nextel. In my town, not a small town by any means, there are very few places that have any service. In the largest subdivision, you cannot get service anywhere. I constantly get comments from people trying to reach me that get the classic nextel line...Please hold while the nextel subscriber you are trying to reach is located. Most of the time I would not even recieve incoming calls, calls would go straight to my voice mail. Not only would I not get the calls, but often I would not even get the voice mails until days or even weeks later. When I did actually take calls (and call out), I cannot count the number of times I've had my call dropped. I recieved so many different error messages sometimes I wonder if they just spend all their time at nextel thinking of different error messages to program into their phones. That brings me to the selling point of nextel, the famed and well-loved direct connect feature. This is an absolute joke. Direct connect only works MAYBE half the time I tried to use it. Even then, in the middle of the conversation I would be greeted by the loud beep of my phone telling me I wont be talking to that person anymore. Of course, I would expect nothing less from the nextel network. Text messaging with nextel is next to impossible. If it did not take hours to send or recieve a message, it took days, or maybe didn't even come at all. The internet access was fine, it the rare instance that it worked. Of course, when you don't have service, you don't get the internet access either. I was constantly getting the message "network not available". Calling and trying to complain to nextel is futile. Trying to get through to customer service takes forever and once you get through they do nothing. My experience with nextel has been nothing short of a disaster and I write this trying to warn anyone considering nextel. Stick with Verizon or Cingular and you will be much happier in the end. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Good phone, gives you the basics,

I would prefer a screen on the front of the phone so I can see who is calling, and different rings would be nice, but otherwise this is a good phone. It is perfect for business (which is what I use it for). The push-to-talk feature is fantastic, but that is more a credit to Nextel. The reception on this phone is very good, better than my personal phone. And the battery life on this phone lasts for days. The menus are easy to navigate and it does not take long to learn how to use this phone. For business, I would highly recommend this phone.

Practical users only,
By A Customer
This review is from: Motorola i60c Phone (Nextel) (Wireless Phone)
I have owned this phone for nearly 6 months now and of course have Nextel as my service provider. The phone does have its flaws, but I'm not going to say I wouldn't recommend the phone to anyone who wanted a reliable-simple-no-frills cell phone. I have noticed the phone does have some serious issues when its talk time has exceeded 15-30 minutes or the battery has dropped to half-life, during this time the phone does develop an echo and sometimes drops the calls. But if you limit your amount of talk time and keep the battery charged, it will work fine. If you subscribe to Nextel and have the all incoming calls free plan, then this is not the phone for you (because you'll probably talk longer than with a cell contract that charges for incoming calls). I will say though if you only talk on a cell phone in limited doeses, don't mind a little expected flaws like echo and really don't have a need for a phone that does everything but take out the trash...the i60c is a good choice, but if you aren't that type of user...well keep shopping
