One of the Best for Phones Business Data Usage,
By ScoutPal Central (Redmond, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Motorola i88s Phone (Nextel) (Wireless Phone)
We have 3 i88s phones, and have equipped them with a barcode scanner. Our ScoutPal.com service is used by hundreds of Amazon sellers (bookscouts) and this phone is one of the most popular ones among ScoutPals. Although it is larger than many consumer-oriented cell phones, its rugged and easy to use keypad makes it perfect for business use, as with ScoutPal where with the i88s you can punch in ISBNs and UPCs one-handed. It also has a fairly large no-nonsense up to 12 line display. Nextel service has been very strong and reliable for us, we have used our i88s phones throughout the major Metro areas of WA OR CA NV AZ NM TX CO UT and ID.Other users comments about the charger connection are correct, you have to be careful as the charger cord terminal end is somewhat fragile. But the phone itself is extremely rugged. No, you won't get fancy ringtones and full-color movies on this phone, but you will get the facts, just the facts!

pretty good except for size,

I haven't had any problems with this phone since I bought it last October. It has good reception in my area (whereas other Nextel phones, including my family's have not). I am however upgrading my phone even though I have not had it for more than four months. My reasons: mainly the size. The phone is quite large and awkward. The i88s is also not capable of downloading ringtones (and I find the defaulted ringtones on the phone very distracting because they sound just like other phones. When my phone rings, at least one other person always looks for their phone to make sure it isn't theres.). Other than that, this is an excellent phone

No competition,

DO NOT let Mr. Hugh's comments above influence your decision about Nextel. He evidently didn't do his homework before he purchased the phone. Ever complaint he had could be had with any phone company if they didn't have service in your area. Nextel can't help it if he lives in some God-forsaken place out in no-where.
I had Nextel in Atlanta for many years with outstanding service before moving into the NE Georgia Mountains which had no Nextel service. Our only service provider was Cingular or Verizon; So I went with Cingular. BIG mistake. Although they had good coverage their customer service was the worst. I was stuck with Cingular for 8 years until last year when Nextel came to the rescue and started expanding and put towers in my area. I bought my all my family Nextel phones (I bought my daughter this one)and we couldn't be happier. And after seeing the good experience we were having my, the rest of my family and friends have also dumped Cingular and Verizon. The only drawback to Nextel (now it is Sprint)is the cost of the plans are a little more, but the quality and service make of for the difference.

Pretty Good Phone,

The i88s is one of our lightest phones, but comes heavy with features. You'll enjoy One Touch Direct Connect, Voice Activated Dialing, and a customizable main menu. You can't go wrong with this versatile and affordable selection. But had ordered it off of Nextels site. They even gave me a code that saved me $50.00. Here it is for you all to share (CL897L) case sensitive. On the shopping cart page. It is like an invoice thing. But I think it is a very good choice. You will enjoy the phone.

Motorola Did it right!,

Over the years, I have been with many different carriers (Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, AT&T, and Prime Co.) and NONE of them could compete with Nextel. The call quality is incredible, customer support is great, and I can't argue with per second billing. As far as this phone... It it amazing! Easy to use, many useful features with all the "clutter" and the call quality is very good. I would reccommend Nextel and this phone to anybody that wants a no nonsence phone that actually works!

My problems with nextel did not stop when I canceled my service. I will get to the problems with the service. When I went to get a new phone a day before my contract expired, I of course wanted to keep my number. So as I went to get my Cingular phone (highly recommended), I had the old number switched to my new number. Today, I get in the mail my nextel statement for the month with a $200 early termination even though I had not canceled my service, but had simply got a new phone and switched my number over. This was on icing on the cake after 2 years of absolutely amazingy bad service from nextel. In my town, not a small town by any means, there are very few places that have any service. In the largest subdivision, you cannot get service anywhere. I constantly get comments from people trying to reach me that get the classic nextel line...Please hold while the nextel subscriber you are trying to reach is located. Most of the time I would not even recieve incoming calls, calls would go straight to my voice mail. Not only would I not get the calls, but often I would not even get the voice mails until days or even weeks later. When I did actually take calls (and call out), I cannot count the number of times I've had my call dropped. I recieved so many different error messages sometimes I wonder if they just spend all their time at nextel thinking of different error messages to program into their phones. That brings me to the selling point of nextel, the famed and well-loved direct connect feature. This is an absolute joke. Direct connect only works MAYBE half the time I tried to use it. Even then, in the middle of the conversation I would be greeted by the loud beep of my phone telling me I wont be talking to that person anymore. Of course, I would expect nothing less from the nextel network. Text messaging with nextel is next to impossible. If it did not take hours to send or recieve a message, it took days, or maybe didn't even come at all. The internet access was fine, it the rare instance that it worked. Of course, when you don't have service, you don't get the internet access either. I was constantly getting the message "network not available". Calling and trying to complain to nextel is futile. Trying to get through to customer service takes forever and once you get through they do nothing. My experience with nextel has been nothing short of a disaster and I write this trying to warn anyone considering nextel. Stick with Verizon or Cingular and you will be much happier in the end. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Poor reception,
By
This review is from: Motorola i88s Phone (Nextel) (Wireless Phone)
The i88s is not a bad phone, it's just not a good phone. Like an earlier reviewer said, the charging system stinks. I've replaced two chargers (car and home) just to keep this thing up and running. The reception is bad. It's not nextel it's the phone. I've held my phone with the antenna up next to my friends nextel phone with his antenna down. He had full reception I had one bar! I've broke two antennas because they are long on this phone and you must have them up to use it. Nextel charges you $40 each antenna. Look for another phone.

Great Phone!!,

I have this phone and I love it. Its ultra durable, easy to read, very loud and clear. There are flukes with every phone, doesn't mean your antenna or your battery will go. I've had this phone for a year now and there's not a scratch on it. I've seen people with flip phones go for lcd ribbons, springs and have scratches all over their phones. I highly recommend this phone.

ALWAYS BROKE!!!!,

The phone and phone functions are great but after having the phone for 3-4 months the phone will no longer charge. I could understand this happening once or twice BUT I've got the insurance on the phone and I've had it replaced for the same reason 7 times. Motorola and Nextel must come up with a more sturdy way to charge the phone...the charger system that they have on ALL the phones stink BUT the i88 is the worse. I've only had one problem with the i95 in a year....I guess that's not TOO bad????
