3.0 out of 5 stars I don't own this,but...
...for my money there are just too many essential tracks missing. The following is a partial listing of songs that should be on any comprehensive Motown collection: "Let's Get It On" by Marvin Gaye(#1,1973),"Just My Imagination(Running Away With Me)" by the Temptations(#1,1971;their first #1 of the '70s,and it was at that position a week longer than "Papa..."),"I Was Made...

4.0 out of 5 stars Motown greats, September 25, 2005

I really enjoyed this album - all the great old motown songs that we sung along with and danced to are here. May I suggest that you take a bit more care with the track listing. 2 out of 60 correct is an abysmal bit of work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Collection, March 26, 2011

A very nice, thorough Motown collection. Has some surprises plus all of the hits you know by heart. There could be a bit more Supremes' representation, but I think it's not so because of the amount of hits they had.

All and all an A-. Good for an introduction to Motown as well as an old fan. The (-) is for lack of photos.

...for my money there are just too many essential tracks missing. The following is a partial listing of songs that should be on any comprehensive Motown collection: "Let's Get It On" by Marvin Gaye(#1,1973),"Just My Imagination(Running Away With Me)" by the Temptations(#1,1971;their first #1 of the '70s,and it was at that position a week longer than "Papa..."),"I Was Made To Love Her"(#2,1967)and "Superstition"(#1,1973),both by Stevie Wonder,"Where Did Our Love Go" by the Supremes (#1,1964 and their first #1 hit),"I Can't Help Myself" by Four Tops(#1,1965 and their first #1 hit),"I Second That Emotion" by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles(#4,1967)and "War" by Edwin Starr(#1,1970).With these songs missing, this collection is definitely mistitled.Instead,we're left with a smattering of tracks that weren't even hits on the Motown label, and some, that if they were even hits, were very minor. These are:"My Old Piano","Behind a Painted Smile","You Are Everything"(a hit for the Stylistics on the Philadelphia Avco label),"Ain't No Sunshine"(a hit for Bill Withers on the Sussex label),"Help Me Make It Through The Night"(not sure who does this on this collection, but this was a country hit for Sammi Smith on the Mega label and it seems really out of place here),and "Don't Look Any Further"(no further information on that one). This is an import,so it seems likely that these songs may have been hits in England.Without the aforementioned tracks though, this collection cannot truly be called "Motown's Greatest Hits".I'll hold out for the collection that has all those other songs listed.I hope this information has helped you regarding your buying decision. All chart and label data is from Joel Whitburn's "Billboard Book of Top 40 Hits".
