I have followed Rockapella since "Don't tell me you do" was their latest CD. I've seen them in concert a dozen or so times, and I've seen 3 member changes. I have almost all of their songs memorized, own all but one CD (devil baby), and Scott and Jeff remember me at the meet-and-greet table. I once considered Scott to have the best male voice of all time, and my first dance with my wife was "My home." I'm familiar with them, to say the very least.

I have watched the group decline over the years, much to my dismay. I have been hoping for the magic they once had, but I just haven't heard anything of redeeming quality since around 2003. Bang! was just a let down. I listened to it once before I put it away. I thought the old Rockapella, the good Rockapella, was long gone, and I accepted that fact.

They redeemed themselves a little with Rockapella Holiday, but most of the tracks were either remakes from previous CDs or just so-so. I did listen to it more than once, so it was better than Bang.

Enter Motown & More. The first whiff I got of this CD was a promo on their website. They sang "Blame it on the boogie" live, and I thought "Are they back?". I was excited when this was their first track. It brings the old harmony feel to the current disjointed group. Sure, some of the songs are remakes from earlier CDs, but most of the tracks are songs I haven't heard them do before. And, I'm happy to say, most of this CD is good! I even find myself listening to one of John's solos!

The bottom line: This is not the quality of Rockapella 1994-2003, but it's not bad. I actually like it. It is a marked improvement over recent projects anyways.

UPDATE: After listening to this CD for over two months now, I have to say that I like Steven Dorian's take on "Dancing in the Streets." After playing Rockapella Live with Kevin singing lead, then listening to Steven's version - Steven's performance is very smooth and I prefer the sound of his voice as the lead on this song.

Like one of the previous reviewers, I have been a long time Rockapella fan/follower since their PBS "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego" Days. There are some songs on this CD that come from other previous Rockapella CD's - "Dancing in the Streets," immediately comes to mind. I don't think that Rockapella has declined - only changed because that's what happens when a group is lucky enough to have a long career. I was lucky enough to meet Sean Altman in 1995, near the time that "Primer" came out, and yes, Motown & more doesn't compare to that. "Blame it on the Boogie" is just a great upbeat song, and my personal favorite "Pretty Much You," which Rockapella has done a video on their website. "Just My Imagination" is a wonderful cover that the group then blends into Lennon's "Imagine" in a skillful and thoughtful way. I bought this CD when Rockapella was here in concert in Oklahoma with no regrets. After a lifetime of singing and learning a capella, Rockapella makes it sound easy - when many of these arrangements are technically very difficult. Track 10 has some killer drum and bass work on the intro that I keep replaying because I'm trying to figure out how they get that sound. Rockapella does justice to Motown in this CD and I have no regrets in the purchase.

This CD is okay. However, the techno rhythm background id a real turn-off!
I expected true four-part vocal harmony acappella od my favorite Motown hits.
It would be perfect without the electronic rhythm section

While I'm not the biggest Motown fan, I like their take on it, it feels very fresh. Their one original track is awesome, I'd really like to see (well, hear) more originals.

Thoroughly enjoying this CD! Rockapella always delights with their wonderful harmonies and amazing energy which comes through on the recording. Love the remixes of Motown greats and the new songs are clever.

Saw Rockapella live and my husband said he would like to her some other music besides the Christmas music so I bought this for Christmas for him. We really enjoyed it. They are awesome. The sound is like no other. A must buy.
