The most underrated bluesman of all time,
By jeff zentner (Salt Lake City) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Motown Years 1972-1976 (Audio CD)
From the beginning track on this album where he imitates a clucking chicken with his guitar, Luther Allison smokes and sizzles his way through 17 burning tracks. This is the best blues album since Couldn't Stand the Weather by SRV. His soul and intensity are unparalleled. He is possibly one of the best blues singers who ever lived. This album details his early years, before he began playing in Europe, as one of the only blues artists on the Motown label. This album has something for everyone, the fan of R&B, Funk, slide guitar, soul, and jus' plain killer guitar work will love this album. If you like B.B., Albert Collins, Stevie Ray, Albert King, or Otis Rush, YOU MUST GET THIS ALBUM! I wish I could give it 6 stars!

I keep a wrapped stack of these CDs in my car under the seat in case I ever need a quick gift for someone. Doesn't matter who they are, they will absolutely love it and continue to mention for years afterwards. It is an epiphany for dilettantes and blue fans alike.
