Thank you to the previous reviewer for the info he included about how many pills to take for various pain levels. I've used Motrin for 35 years. It was prescribed for me for PMS pain and it is the only thing that works. I've tried many different generic brands and Advil but it simply doesn't work as well or as quickly--if it works at all. I don't know how Motrin is formulated but I have several friends who say the same thing--Motrin brand works better than generic. This stuff is a life saver for anyone with daily pain issues--I take 3-4 at a time depending on the pain level and have not had any stomach or liver issues to date.

There are two brand-name Ibuprofen products on the market, Advil and Motirn. Both are good products, but are much more expensive than their generic counterparts Member's Mark - Ibuprofen Pain Reliever/Fever Reducer 200 mg, 1000 Tablets (Twin Pack).

Motrin (Ibuprofen) is a good over the counter analgesic (pain reliever) that works on mild to moderate pain. It comes in 200 milligam tablets/capsules. For most mild aches, it can be quite effective. Not only does Ibuprofen relieve pain, but it also is a good anti-inflammatory medication (it lessens swelling). Thus it is also good for arthritis pain, any joint or muscle sprains or strains, and good for toothache pain too.

I find teh name somewhat misleading, as there is a prescription product, called "motrin", but it is a 400 mg tablet. Thus, if two tablets of this product are taken. it is equivalent to prescription-strength Motrin. Three tablets, i.e. 600 mg, is for moderate to moderately severe pain. All three doses, 200, 400, and 600 mg can be taken every 4 hours as needed for pain. Four tablets is the highest prescribed dose (800 mg), and should only be taken once every 6 hours. Please note: Consult with your doctor if you plan to take a dose higher than 200 mg.

Ibuprofen can cause stomach upset and mild stomach bleeding, therefore, always take it with a large cup of water and to minimize gastric upset, eat something with it, like some yogurt, some applesauce, a piece of toast, etc. The extra food will help protect your gut.

LIke any medication, Ibuprofen should not be taken day after day for an extended period of time without a doctor's supervision. Ibuprofen in higher doses or low continuous doses can damage your liver and kidneys. If you are planning to use Ibuprofen for only a few days, you should be able to tolerate 2-3 tablets every 4-6 hours as needed (provided you are a generally healthy adult, are not allergic to Ibuprofen, have no existing liver or kidney disease, and have no stomach ulcers or chronic gut conditions like IBS. If you have heart disease, consult your doctor before using in higher doses.

I gave this 4-stars for a quality product. Since there are generic equivalents at nerly half the price, this is not 5-stars due to the price - good product, but more expensive.

Motrin IB is, by far, the best ibuprofen out there. I have found much better pain relief with this brand than any of the other generics. It is worth the price difference to buy this.
Motrin was the first ibuprofen manufactured. Some generics are so inferior, it's like taking a Tic Tac for pain.

Motrin IB can be hard to find in stores due to some recent recalls by the manufacturer, and I've never found the 300 count bottle anywhere but here.

And I say that as a pharmacist and drug store owner who was told by my patients for 30 years that generic ibuprofen was inferior, and I didn't believe it until I had to rely on it for simple mobility every day.

I need a hip replacement (degenerative arthritis) and I'm trying to put it off. I won't take anything stronger than ibuprofen after having seen too many of my patients become addicted to narcotic pain relievers over the years. The thing is, Motrin IB 800mg (four of these 200mg tabs) allows me freedom of movement so that I don't even limp while it's working. The generic gives me some pain relief, about 50% of the brand name, but the anti-inflammatory effect is vastly reduced with the generic, giving me little more freedom of motion in the hip than taking nothing at all.

Bottom line, when the Motrin has kicked in (2 hours after taking, lasts 8 hours or so), I am pain free and have normal freedom of movement. I still need the hip replacement, but until then, the more expensive Motrin IB will be my choice over the generics, most of which I've purchased on Amazon also.

As to cost and expiration date, the 300-count bottle that arrived today from Amazon was $20.37 and expires in March 2013. That's great dating.

So don't let someone tell you that a generic is exactly the same if your body disagrees. It's your body, you know the difference. Most generics are as efficacious as the brand names, especially in prescription drugs. For ibuprofen products, however, there is a difference.

I already use Motrin so knew it worked for me, but this was a great price & I have never seen such a large bottle-300 count. I have to use it pretty much every night for Arthritis pain, so the more economical size is great. When I'm forced to buy the little bitty 100 count bottle from a local store I'm really getting a bad price. It came quickly and has a nice far off expiritation date-2-1/2 years! Hope to reorder from same when I need to. Even with the shipping added which of course you want to figure in also, it was cheaper for my area of shopping anyway.

I don't know why generics don't work for me, but they don't. I need the real thing. And none of the retail drug or department stores carry Motrin anymore--they only carry their own brand of ibuprofen. Their loss is Amazon's gain.

This is one of the only products that works for any bad aches or pains, including a tooth ache. I always keep a bottle around in case of an emergency. Prices unfortunately do vary.

GREAT PRICE JAN 2010, TRIED TO RE-ORDER MARCH 2010, AND IT INCREASED IN PRICE 20-25%!!!! WHY!! NOW IT IS NOT COST EFFECTIVE TO ORDER ON-LINE, SO UNFORTUNATELY I WILL NOT DO SO. I WILL PURCHASE IT ELSEWHERE, WHERE THEY DO NOT INCREASE THE PRICE 25% OR 12.5% PER MONTH!! AT THIS RATE, BY THE END OF THE YEAR, YOU WILL NEED A SECOND MORTAGE TO PURCHASE A BOTTLE.
