When this cd came out, I thought: Having all of her albums, will this one be worth buying??...and having indulged in finally buying it, in spite of its expensiveness, the answer is YES!!, no regrets at all....this release is worth every dollar!

Featuring most of her greatest songs on this double cd collection makes the album really a must!... Both cd's have been constantly played in my stereo, discman and car, especially cd number two, which includes three new gorgeous never-released-before songs, all consecutively released as cd singles in France, most notably "Pardonne-Moi" (the third single), a melancholic, sensuous, lush, ballad in the trend of her latest studio album, the excellent "Innamoramento"...."Les Mots" (the first single), a duo with Seal, sung half in french & english....and "C'est une belle journée" (the second single), a happy, tuneful, infectious pop song, sort of in the style of "L'Histoire D'Une Fee, C'est...", the song Myléne created for the "Rugrats in Paris" soundtrack, which is also included. If you have the chance of watching the videoclips of the three aforementioned singles, they're fantastic (I watched them on TV5's international signal).

Besides, this wonderful collection includes new versions for "Maman a Tort", excellent remastered (but sometimes shorter) versions of "Beyond my Control", "Je t'aime Melancolie", et al....and such rarities, not included in her studio albums, like "Effets Secondaires", which ends with "great sound effect", "A Quoi Je sers", "La Veuve Noire".....

The CD Booklet has great photos of Mylene in various moods....In all, you won't be disappointed, a great experience. Buy it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Poetic, lush, unique., March 15, 2002
This review is from: Les Mots: Best of (Audio CD)
For those of you who are familiar with Mylene Farmer, one of France's most popular pop singers, no introduction is required. At times compared to everyone from Kate Bush to Tori Amos to Madonna, Mylene's lyrics are poetic and unique, while the music is lush, well-produced, and varied euro-pop.

"Le Mots" is a greatest hits collection of sorts, remastered material starting with her first 1985 single, as well as some new and rare material on disque 2. The title track is a very good bilingual duet with British singer Seal.

I recommend this set for anyone with an interest in Mylene but who doesn't own her CDs; for the diehard Mylene fan there's new stuff and some wonderful photos.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't stay away from it, my new best friend !!, February 1, 2004

I only knew 2 of mylene's songs that I heard on a european ststion when I was in medical school, I thought she was great!. But by no stretch of immagination did I think she had this massive great talent as a singer and song writer!
I admit I am still overwhelmed by the double CD set, I'm lost for words to describe the impact this album has on me.

There are 30 magnifisant songs, I can't say that one is better than the other , She will take you on a journey of ballades, pop and nearly classic on occasions.

I can't get over the beautiful ballade "pardonne-moi", where she sings her emotions out to princes of different countries, without having to shout or squeele like others do, you can feel the true emotion and the glory of her singing and writing talents, My God!!!!, it's mind blowing, also"les mots" such a beautiful ballade and one of my favourites has to be "Je te rends ton amour", the clarity and beauty of her voice and the beautiful music of Lourent Boutonant makes an unmissable piece of art!
And on a sunny day or a night out and in the car, "Sans cotrefacon" and "Pourvu qu'elle soint douce" are a great example of how far her talent goes for feel good probably danceable (for those who dance) pop music.

The sound quality and the grace and glory of her voice places her on top of my list of favourite singers, she is number one! and I'm talking about english and french singers!

If you don't have any french CD's start with this , you won't be able to get it out of your head.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!!!, December 8, 2001
This review is from: Les Mots: Best of (Audio CD)
I'm very pleased at this one.

C'est une bonne chose, Mylene. Merci pour la musique et amour!

(translation): I'ts a good thing, Mylene. Thank you for the music and love!

Not only is the track list well chosen, but the photos are absolutely amazing. They reveal a side of Mylene which she hasn't shown too much. LES MOTS takes us down the long, successful road of the sexy, 41 year old french bombshell's career.

With 30 songs old and new, this re-mastered collection introduces 3 new songs which are amazing. I love (Les Mots)Duet with Seal. Who'd ever think 2 such wonderful artists from 2 entirely different worlds of music would come together on LES MOTS?
The 14th song on disc 2 is from a more or less "rare to find" single cd. I'm glad they put it on LES MOTS.
With this collection, you don't really have to buy Mylene's other CDs because all the good stuff is here.

...I won't bother talking about all the tracks, because they are all equally good. There's a song for everyone, young and old, dancy or serious. The whole collection is based on a more upbeat feeling though! Here is where my next point comes into say...

And here it is!

Mylene and Laurent Boutannat should have included these songs: (Pas le temps de vivre), (Deshabillez-Moi), (Dessine-moi un mouton) and (Allan).
The collection is still great though.

Now, about the book interior. Well...the interior is amazing and it captures the "shy, yet playful PlayBoy Bunny" side of Mylene.
The photos inside the actual loose cd sleeve are rare, stunning and seem to relate to a clean yet seductive flick she made.
I think that seeing these photos, it says she can do anything she wants. Acting looks easy for her.
I just love the book cover-like packaging and the somewhat confusing centerfold, right smack in the center.
I say it's somewhat confusing bebause of the way you have to open it. The CD trays are jewel-case like. The artwork is genius inside the entire package.

I found the CD on the store shelf by accident, actually.
My long wait has finally come to an end. We all must have been wondering when Miss Farmer was going to release another item.
I only noticed now, that disc 1 is black, and disc 2 is gray.
Nice change to the usual black-only style. The cd title is simple, and if you will notice, Mylene says "Merci a Vous..." as a simple thanx on the last page.

I personally reccomend this cd to anyone, english or french, and all her music makes great christmas gifts. LES MOTS deserves 10 stars because it is so different to any other greatest hits cd I've bought. Take Mylene home for the holidays and party on!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you only own one French-language CD, make it this., March 16, 2002

This review is from: Les Mots: Best of (Audio CD)
Forget Celine Dion, Lara Fabian and the wailing French clones. Mylene is the greatest French female vocalist of modern times: she has it all. A provocative, sexy image (wouldn't we all like to look as good as her at 41??), a unique, crystal-clear voice, controversial lyrical themes sung over catchy dance beats and beautifully produced electronic backing tracks. The best tracks here are "Tristana", "Desenchantee", "Regrets", "Je Te Rends Ton Amour"... OK, all of them! Language is no barrier to great music - and if you only own one French language CD, then make it this one.

This review is from: Les Mots: Best of (Audio CD)

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-own for the novice Farmer fan, December 9, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Les Mots: Best of (Audio CD)
This is the definitive collection of Mylene Farmer's greatest hits. From her first single (1985) to her latest record-breaking French single (a 2001 duet with British pop-star Seal), this album has it all. Mylene's very French ability to manipulate language shines through her sometimes playful, sometimes melancholy, always thought-provoking music. Her crystalline voice is beautiful without the Celine Dion-esque wailing. She will make you cry, she will make you laugh, she will make you love her immediately. BUY IT NOW!

On a recent Air France flight to Paris I heard the fantastic "Les Mots" (duet with Seal) and immediately bought the double-CD at the airport. I have been playing it ever since! I prefer the newer songs (CD2), but all the songs are great. "Les Mots" is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. It's too bad that she seems to be totally unknown in the U.S.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent compilation of a very Beautiful Mylene, March 17, 2002
By
This review is from: Les Mots: Best of (Audio CD)
I listen Mylene since 1997 (the year of "Live in Bercy", very recomendable). Actually I have all the collection.. Whatever some songs were very difficult to find (A quoi je sers, Que mon coeur lâche -studio version-, for example). This album contains all these singles, her best hits and new songs with her classical an beautiful style that all the fans love. If you are looking for a Pop music of High Quality (not stupid USA marketins), French Pop music, or if is your first time with Mylene, this album is the first option. I think this is the best compilation of Rock Pop this year. Rate: 9.4
