4.0 out of 5 stars Spectacular..."Collector's Edition"...?
If you have already purchased the first two Moulin Rouge individual soundtracks, then do not waste your money buying this one. All the tracks are the same (and in the same order) as the first two discs. There is only a single "Lady Marmelade" remix added.

Of course all the music in this edition is absolutely fantastic. But having purchased the first two...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite as complete of a soundtrack as I would like to be.
If you are hoping that the whole score and all the musical numbers are found in the collector's edition, you will be disappointed. First, the tracks are not ordered in the manner as they occurred in the film. Song bits from the "Sound of Music" and from the Green Fairy are missing.

But having purchased the first two single discs, I already knew that. I would have hoped that this disc would at least have put the songs from the two discs together in ORDER that they appear in the movie...but it isn't so. Basically it's like having the same two discs, in a different case.

If you have not purchased either of the previous soundtracks, then I WOULD recommend buying this one. Most of the songs directly from the movie are on here, and the instrumentals are beautiful...it's funny how a simple song ("Your Song") can take on such different meanings depending on the tempo/dynamic/instrumentals used. The instrumentals really show how well the music fit the mood of each scene.

There are some songs from the movie NOT included on here, that I really want to hear, including the Green Fairy bit, some of the intro dance mixes, and the final Satine/Christian/company song. Maybe there will be another collector's edition that we can pay even more money for, that will include all these songs.

Until then, enjoy this music which I highly recommend, unless you have already purchased the previous single discs.

If you are hoping that the whole score and all the musical numbers are found in the collector's edition, you will be disappointed. First, the tracks are not ordered in the manner as they occurred in the film. Song bits from the "Sound of Music" and from the Green Fairy are missing. You don't get the film version (which sounds way better!) of "Your Song" or "Children of the Revolution" on either disc. "El Tango de Roxanne" would've been better if the intro dialogue was included. I personally would've liked the soundtrack collection to include some of the notable lines/quotes from the movie as supplemental tracks. The collection is good, but you aren't getting everything that you hope to. My solution to this problem, buy the dvd, capture the songs to your computer, and create your own soundtrack! I created my own "soundtrack" (for my own use) and it's better than the collector's edition could ever be!

3.0 out of 5 stars GOOD, BUT COULD BE BETTER, September 1, 2003
This review is from: Moulin Rouge Collector's Edition (Audio CD)
I love the soundtracks - they've been playing in my car for about a month now, but I am disappointed that so much has been left out. I wish they would come out with a true Collector's Edition which features all of the music (ex. Zidler's Rap, Kidman's final Come What May), by the actor's who sing it in the flick (ex. Nature Boy by J. Leguizamo) and in it's COMPLETE version (ex. Tango de Roxanne.) The soundtrack is still amazing, it just leaves me wanting more.

This music compilation is definately worth buying. The 2nd CD has several songs that are unique to the film or not on the 1st CD. The 1st CD is also wonderful. Being a huge fan of the movie--and previously having some shocking "that's not how it's supposed to sound!" made for radio moments--I was unsure of how some of the songs not sung by the original actor/actors would sound. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. David Bowie's rendition of "Nature Boy" and Beck's "Diamond Dogs" are just 2 of the many wonderful songs on this 1st CD. The one caution I would raise is that these 2 CD's appear to be the same as buying the Moulin Rouge CD's # 1 & 2 seperately. The one bonus I can find on this set is song # 16 on the 1st CD..."Lady Marmalade Thunderpuss Radio Mix"...(it's ok, but nothing special.) Bottom line: If you decide to get this 2 CD set, the music is enchanting and wonderful to listen (and sing) to; If you decide to get anything else, I recomend getting Moulin Rouge 1 & 2 in order to get the same wonderful & theatrical effect.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Sparkling Diamond, June 16, 2002
This review is from: Moulin Rouge Collector's Edition (Audio CD)
Mixing music hall and opera with occasional doses of rap, tango, jazz, chanson française, electronica and bollywood style music, Moulin Rouge's soundtrack is what you might definitely call hyper-eclectic. As you can see from the track list, anything from Your Song to Nature Boy and Roxanne was thrown in, reworked, rearranged and revamped and it doesn't only hold together, it works amazingly well. The highlights include David Bowie's version of Nature Boy, the hyperactive Sparkling Diamonds (a medley of Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend and Material Girl) sung by Nicole Kidman, and an operatic version of Elton John's Your Song wonderfully performed by the multitalented Ewan McGregor. Other attempts are less successful, Cristina Aguilera-Pink-Lil Kim-etc.'s Lady Marmalade is a bit lacklustre and Fatboy Slim's Because We Can is annoyingly repetitive.

The first CD features a lot of covers and remixes that weren't used in the film, but the second CD is made up almost entirely of music that was actually in the movie. Here you'll find the film version of Sparkling Diamonds, a wonderfully operatic version of The Show Must Go On sung by the excellent Jim Broadbent, some very beautiful instrumental music and a remix of One Day I'll Fly Away by Nicole Kidman that's as good as the version used in the film. One minor complaint: Kylie Minogue's extremely funny rendition of The Sound of Music is sorely missed!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best musical combination CD yet for a Soundtrack., May 19, 2003

I'm not a musical movie fan, but this movie left me breathless. This CD is the best combo ever. The first CD in this collection is songs of a different version than the movie, but better versions I think. The second CD has all the original movie versions and instrumentals. Oh my gosh, the instrumentals on "Your Song" are beautiful. There just isn't anything I can say bad about this CD collection. I think it is just a perfect pick of songs to be on there.

I love the film I love the music... Basically I'm a huge MR fan.... still I'm nopt satisfied! I still miss a few songs, like for instance the super SmellsLikeCanCanMarmelade-medley song, the film version of Fly Away, the full version of my breathtaking favourite "Roxanne Tango".... and the end version of "Come What may"....
I know this review doesn't hold anything new.... It's basically just a wish for a third and SPECTACULAR SPECTACULAR MR soundtrack wich can make you jump infront of the mirror screaming like a fool yet again..... believe my I have already done this a lot with the two I already own....

...No words in the vernacular can describe this great event, you'll be dumb with wonderment. The price is fixed at [$$$], you must agree that's excellent. And on top of your fee, you'll be involved artistically (dancing on your bed and singing in the car).

So exciting, I couldn't help but stop and cheer. So delighting, it will run for fifty years (permanent spot in my CD player).

Elephants, Arabians, Indians and courtesans, Acrobats, and juggling bears, exotic girls, fire eaters! Musclemen, contortionists, intrigue danger and romance. Electric lights, machinery. Oh the electricity.

If you love the film, you'll adore the soundtrack. Get the collecter's edition. You won't regret it.

My husband bought me this soundtrack because he was sick of me watching the dvd over and over again for the songs! It is a great soundtrack!!!
The first cd has all of the main songs of the movie, including "Lady Marmalade". The second cd is a great compilation of songs heard mainly in the background or at the end credits.
If you liked the movie like I did, buy this soundtrack!

4.0 out of 5 stars Music that's crazily smoooth..., July 3, 2002
This review is from: Moulin Rouge Collector's Edition (Audio CD)
This is a great thing to buy if you liked the MR movie because it has almost every song you could want. Almost - there's a few songs (such as Kylie Minogue's appearance) that are omitted and I'd much rather have had them than the instrumentals provided on the second CD or the Lady Marmalade remix (I do like that song, but you can hear it too many times.) Practically every song on this though is enjoyable and there's a nice range of different types of music. Overall it's a rich and exciting selection and getting two CDs is a bargain.
