This review is from: Mounds for the Dead (Annals of Carnegie Museum, Vol. 37) (Paperback)
For anyone who has ever seen the scattered prehistoric indian mounds throughout the upper Ohio valley and wondered what lies beneath, Mounds For The Dead is a fascinating account of the excavation of a large Adena mound near the Ohio river in West Virginia. Dragook takes the reader level by level through the mound, describing the artifacts and burials found within each "tomb". There are some unexpected surprises including a skeleton over 7 feet tall. The findings of the burial are placed into context of earlier excavations of mounds and a nice summary of the Adena culture follows.
