I purchased this book based upon the other reviews of 5 stars. I brought this book with me to China Camp in Marin. It was woefully inadequate as to the representation of the trails. There are a multitude of trails that are not shown nor mentioned in the book. Very disappointing and a waste of money for me. I ended up purchasing "China Camp State Park" map by 360MAPS at REI to get a better representation of that area. I would not recommend this book if you are interested in detail of the area of your interest. Get a good TOPO map instead.

I bought this book after meeting Skye at a presentation he gave at REI in Berkeley. It is obvious that he really knows the bay area well and of course loves mountain biking. The trail maps are very easy to understand and he does a good job of explaining how to stay on the correct trail. I've found some really cool trails because of this book: currently one of my favorites is Bolinas Ridge Trail. I've got a few other books but I really like how clear the elevation maps are and he rates each ride in a number of ways in the beginning: by mileage, feet of climbing, rides with jumps, extreme drops, lonely & crowded rides, the level of maintenance, if they are flat/steep, scenic, creek/river rides, lake rides, wildlife rides, etc.He does a really good job. Like others have said he even recommends a place to eat after the ride. It's pretty current too (2008) so the descriptions are up to date accurate. It got 40 rides, you can't go wrong!

Skye Kraft definitely knows his stuff! This is a great guide, written by a local that knows his way around the bay area. Kind of a must have for anyone spending time or living the SF Bay area that wants to know the best mountain bike trails.

The most complete guide to the bay area I have seen; very well done including his favorite after ride pizza or coffee shop!
