It is also a useful resource for those who want to improve their general fitness, and have chosen the sport of mountain biking as a fun way to better health. The book includes in-depth guidelines on every aspect of mountain bike fitness training. It shows how to assess fitness, working out training programs tailored to needs, formulate a realist diet plan, and ride a smarter and more ergonomic race. Where applicable, detailed descriptions of do-it-yourself fitness tests, skill drills, and training exercises are given, which should allow the reader to boost their fitness and skill at home with a minimal amount of specialist equipment. 5.0 out of 5 stars a useful resource for getting fit, March 6, 2002

This review is from: Mountain Biking Fitness Training (Hardcover)
I own several books on mtb fitness training (all the usual subjects) but none of them really appealed to me or contained any realistic training that I could do. Mountain Bike Fitness Training by John Metcalfe is the only one which makes sense. It contains a step by step approach to getting fit. It starts with goal setting, then fitness tests you can do at home, and then how to design a training plan to suit your needs. There is also quality information on nutrition and ultra distance racing.

If you're serious about mountain biking, get a copy - you won't be disappointed.
