3.0 out of 5 stars Decent for the money, but average overall., November 16, 2000
This review is from: Mountain Biking Washington (Paperback)
Mountain Biking Washington is a decent introductory guidebook, but readers should consult other guidebooks for more detailed information. Though it isn't bad, it is very generic. Black provides relatively detailed descriptions of the trails and decent driving directions (no maps for driving directions). The trails he describes are representative of Washington, though not comprehensive (Black acknowledges this).

The problem with Mountain Biking Washington isn't what it has, but what it doesn't have. It contains few photographs and though trail directions and descriptions are relatively accurate, it isn't detailed enough. In particular, trail maps are often sketchy and difficult to read (especially when you are riding). Black provides only limited information related to available lodging near trails, local bike shops, or other useful information. The information provided is limited to trails and directions. No information about local towns or other interesting attractions is provided.

Mountain Biking Washington is an adequate guidebook for residents of Washington state, but visitors would be better served to find a more comprehensive guidebook with more detailed information. Not a bad book for the price, but there are much better guidebooks for $3 or $4 more.
