This review is from: A Mountain of Blintzes (Paperback)
This is a wonderfully hilarious story, set just before the Jewish holiday of Shavuot (Shavuos) in a small town in the Catskills. A family's finances are tight, so the mother sets up a plan to save enough money to afford to make mountains of blintzes for the holiday. She and her husband will do a little extra work, then save the earnings in a little bank in the kitchen. What happens is pure silliness. Goldin captures the Yinglish of the mother perfectly in her well-written dialogue, and the illustrations are clever and cheerful. The text doesn't tell very much about the holiday, but there's a little note at the beginning of the book.
