AVOID BLACKFEET INDIANS, OR ARROWS ON THE PRAIRIE, October 2, 2007

Blackfeet Massacre (Wilderness #10):
Another well written and informative book of mountain man fiction from the pen of David Robbins. Book number ten in the series overall, re-telling of the hatred for whites held by the Blackfeet since Lewis and Clark killed members of their tribe. The Blackfeet killed and tortured more trappers during the Mountain Man era than any other tribe.
This book has many aspects: a somewhat crazy minister wanting to minister to the Blackfeet (certain death at the least), a horse named Pegasus and a black dog named Samson, grizzly bear killing by Nate, lore of the Shoshone camps, attacks by the Blood tribe of the Blackfeet nation, horse stealing by the Arapaho, and notes on life in general from Shakespeare, the mountain man, that is.
This series is yet ongoing after all these years (more than 20) with the latest book, Pure In Heart, #54 in the series due out in November, 2007. I've read on the west all my life and in my estimation no other single writer, no, not even Louis L'Amour with his Sackett series, has ever created so many books in a single series that depicts life within a certain family. There are more than 50 books in this series now that allow insight to both the mountain man era and family life of these men married to Shoshone or Flathead Indian women.
Just a terrific series, and one all western readers should be sure to read. Mr. Robbins has done a very great thing here for western literature.
Well recommended.
