5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic story of a railroad, January 13, 1999
This review is from: Mountain Goat (Paperback)
I was fortunate enough to learn about this book from William Turner, the Grundy County Historian, who provided the pictures for the book. The book itself is a fascinating history of the Tennessee Coal and Iron Railroad spur that ran from Sewanee to Tracy City and later Coalmont in the Cumberland region of Tennessee. The book touches on the personalities that founded the railroad and communities, the communities that grew up around it and the folks that made the railroad run. The book relays many great stories about the railroad and it's construction, along the way telling the tale of the community around it. It's a great read for those who want a feel of what it was like to work on the old steam locomotives and what the life was like for them. My only complaint is that the book jumps around chronologically, but that's a minor complaint. It's of great value to those who's ancestors worked for this or any railroad (mine included), folks with ties to the Cumberland and those folks interested in genealogy.
