As the owner of a couple hundred cookbooks, I think it means something for me to say that I've used this cookbook many times. I've used quite a few of the recipes more than once.

The sections are:
Appetizers (Parmesan-Spinach Balls with Honey-Mustard-Chili Sauce are simple to make, and everyone wants the recipe)
Soups and Stews (Potato, Cheese & Chili Bisque)
Salads (Bavarian Red Potato and Apple Salad)
Grains, Legumes, Pastas & Vegetables (Asparagus with Toasted Hazelnuts and Garlic - I subbed almonds with scrumptions results...this sauce is killer and SO easy)
Lamb, Pork, Wild Game and Beef (Cabernet-Cherry Grilled Elk Flank with Red Onion Marmalade - I didn't make the marmalade, but the marinade was perfect)
Poultry and Wild Fowl (Chipotle- and Thyme-Roasted Turkey Breast with Chipotle Aioli)
Fish and Seafood (I haven't made any yet but check out the Green Chili and Corn-Stuffed Trout with Lime or the Oysters and Walnuts En Croute with Sherry Sauce)
Desserts (Taos Cinnamon-Chocolate Torte was a bit too dry for me, but I'll use the glaze recipe on other things. The Flathead Cherry Fudge Torte never has a crumb left)
Breads (Sweet Potato Biscuits)
Brunch (Polenta Triangles with Poached Eggs, Peppers and Hollandaise)

A very few ingredients (mainly meat) might be harder to obtain for non-Rockies residents. There's a list of suppliers at the end, as well as a good index.

All of the instructions are easy to follow. Lots of the recipes make me think of warm, cozy food. They are flavorful without being overly spicy. Each one has an interesting twist. I only listed a few of the recipes that I've actually tried, but she covers a wide spectrum within each category.

I'm going to buy a copy for my father, also a cook. He enjoyed reading the author's comments about each recipe. He wanted so many of the recipes that I'm not giving up my copy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Quite what I Thought, July 13, 2010

While looking specifically for a high altitude cookbook, this title kept popping up on the screen. While a wonderful addition to any cookbook library, it is simply a cookbook with a small mention on page 3 about high altitude cooking.

We visited the Rockies, so I was intrigued with this cookbook. I was quite surprised to see how versatile it is...not a collection of things no one would ever make, really quite a wonderful collection of recipes.
