Love it, but it has some upkeep issues.,

I love this jacket and it definitely kept me warm last winter. My only "beef" with the jacket is that is has to be treated with a special product after you wash it in order to be water resistant. So, you might want to consider some sort of Gore-Tex (or other similar product) if you want a jacket that has less maintenance issues.

Keeps you warm in cold weather (tested in 20 degrees with wind and snow) but too warm for being active. A walk in the city is perfect. A walk in the woods is not.

Perfect Coat for those cold winter days!,

I just moved to Chicago from NYC and am already enduring a below-than-normal December. It averaged around 20 degrees for high temps last week. And I have to say this coat has been great. It really keeps you warm and toasty, I feel myself getting pretty warm if I'm taking a brisk walk. And I can easily get by wearing just a t-shirt, no sweaters necessary! I think some of the best features are as follows:
- Lightweight: It's really amazing how little weight this coat carries. I tried on a North Face parka before I got this and I realized why it was so warm - the NF parka must have weighted 10 pounds. It was exhausting lugging it around. The Mountain Hardware Downtown coat is not heavy at all. - Really Warm Hood: The detachable hood is lined with down and the drawstring pulls it down nicely. Keeps your head nice and warm - remember that you lose a lot of heat from your noggin! - Fleece-lined Pockets: Your hands feel snug as bug in the pockets. You almost don't need gloves. - Great Look: Down-filled coats are great but I never really liked the bubble look. This coat hides it's down compartments well so the coat looks pretty stylish. So if you want something that keeps you warm, and is good looking at the same time I highly recommend this product.

bought this jacket for my BF. It fits him really well especially the narrow bottom. It keeps the wind out. It has most of the features he wanted except the fur trim on the hood. Over all it's a very good quality jacket.

I had high hopes when I unboxed my new Mountain Hardwear Downtown Parka this evening. Nice fabric, looks good. Fits well. So I pulled I on and went for a short walk (it's 25 deg F out). What? My arms were cold! How could this be? It's a winter parka with down fill, for crying out loud! So back to the house. I pulled the sleeved inside out and discovered that the baffles are hugs and they are mostly devoid of down.I'm sure that Mountain Hardwear is saving a lot on labor by outsourcing manufacturing to China. The problem is that the product is junk. Never again. I will never order another Mountain Hardwear product! |
