The moment I saw this jacket (in bright orange) I knew I wanted it. The moment I touched it I knew it's point.

Unlike the other softshell jackets out there, this one is more on the rubbery side, giving it superior water resistance. I would say almost truly water proof, and effectively water proof in just about any setting a person may find themselves.

Even if you already have another softshell jacket, you still may want to consider getting one of these as well, if you ever spend time outside in the rain, on a boat, or any other damp setting.

Why Mountain Hardwear classifies this jacket as a softshell is beyond me. It's more like a lightweight windbreaker. It's not really a softshell at all. The material they used is too thin and not of the right texture/feel to be considered a true softshell. A much better example of a softshell is the North Face Apex Bionic jacket.

If you are looking for a jacket you can wear year round as just a jacket to keep you warm and dry as you run around town, go to work, or whatever, this is not it. It is clearly designed as an outer shell for people who do sports outdoors and want to layer their clothes.

The rest of us that need a warm, stylish, softshell jacket, well, we'll need to look elsewhere.

Also, if you wear a large North Face jacket, you'll want to get this jacket in an XL.

Lastly, the blue is not nearly blue enough. Far too dark for my tastes. I'd prefer a blue that pops a lot more. Yes, I buy softshells not only to stay warm and dry, but also because I like how they look.

To sum up, this jacket is far too thin to wear as a regular jacket in places like Portland, OR.
