I love this jacket, I have two of them actually. That being said, I can't really wear them out in public anymore because after a couple of months of wearing it frequently, parts of the fuzz matt down and the damage is not fixable. It's just how the fabric wears. So I still wear them at home, but I don't really wear them out because the matted fuzz makes it look like you've been wearing the jacket for at least a week without taking it off once. It's a lot worse with the light colored ones, I have a black one and the matting is not as apparent.

I am a pretty small framed person and wear a boys youth large in my north face jacket. However i made a wrong choice going with the womens extra small! I am 5'3 so im not tall but it was too short in the arms and when i sat down. It is still a Very very nice jacket and very warm!

I tend to be cold a lot and this jacket is wonderful! It's amazingly soft and warm and comfortable. I have white and it's getting a little dirty over time, but it washes well and still looks great after 7 months. The only downside is that it is not warm in the wind. Wind will go right through this coat so you need a shell over it if you are out in the wind much. Makes for a great Christmas present!

I bought one of these in 2009 and now I have 7 of them. I always feel a bit chilled and wear them everywhere.

It is true that the older ones have this 'flattening' of the fleece but it's not a major problem and only occurs where it is touched all the time - the elbows and around the zipper. It's barely noticeable on the darker colours. The newer ones (since 2010) don't do this, they always look fluffy but I kind of like the worn look of the older ones too.

There 'may' be some pilling of the stretchy (other) fabric parts but I think this depends on the material used, at any one time, as one of mine (from 2009) has no pilling at all and it's had a hundred washes.

I've never put them in the dryer and I see NO reason to. They are so light, they air dry in a warm room in a couple of hours.

Windproof - No, and if you read any of the specs or advertising it says it is not windproof so I don't know how people can buy it and expect it to be so and then complain about it! Do your research before outlaying the cash. No one said it was windproof! It is an inner layer and easily teams with a soft shell for the perfect combo. That it isn't windproof means that it breathes well and makes it even more versatile.

Smells? You certainly can't blame your clothes for your own BO problems!

It is a little waterproof because the water will brush straight off but only heavy duty 'plastic' is ever going to keep you dry in a downpour. Don't know why people would complain about this aspect either. It is what it is - a warm fleece.

I read a review that said the jacket molted and they ended up with fluff all over their tent. Never happened to me but you should be aware that there are copies of Mountain Hardware out there (just like TNF) and if it's doing that, you've likely got a cheap copy.

Complaining about price? I have never paid more than $100 for one. Always get them on sale.

Absolutely brilliant piece of clothing. Will never bother with another brand fleece again.

I own 2 Monkey Phur jackets. I have the jacket in ESPRESSO and the DOLOMITE/KETTLE color. The medium size fits my 5'6" slender build with enough room for layering over a sweater. The jacket is also excellent for wearing under larger coats for added warmth and wind protection. I have had one jacket for three years and the other for two. I wear the espresso jacket on the farm, hiking, and wear both as my everyday jackets. Monkey Phur jackets wash well when the care instructions are followed. Wash in cold water and do not use fabric softener. I do not dry my jackets in the dryer. They air dry quickly which is handy when you get caught in the rain on the hiking trail. I wash my jacket frequently when I wear it around the farm. Dirt and fuzz do not stick to the Monkey Phur like they do to most other fleece type jackets. I get lots of compliments on both jackets and will be purchasing a black one soon.

This jacket was suggested by a salesperson at Eastern Mountain Sports, and I passed on it originally because I wasn't sure I'd need it for my trip to Iceland in September. I later changed my mind and bought it through Amazon. It's amazing! I'm always warm and comfortable on the occasions I've had to wear it since, and I can't wait for the temperatures to drop more so I never have to take it off. I'm not very outdoors-y, so I can't say for sure whether it's the best technical jacket out there. All I know is I was never cold with it on.

As far as fit is concerned, I usually wear a medium but selected a large in this jacket. The material is a little stretchy, and I didn't really want the jacket to hug my body closely. I wanted it a baggy fit. The white color wasn't a problem. I was able to wash off any stains that showed up, although if you do dab at it, use only a clean white cloth. I used a blue kitchen sponge one time and almost stained the spot blue. I washed it in the machine right away, so there was no permanent damage.

In all, this is the best and most comfortable jacket I've ever purchased! I plan on getting several as gifts for my family this year.

This is the second monkey jacket I...well, me and my husband have purchased. He got me one for Valentine's Day last year in the espresso color. The jacket is fitted, warm, and washes easily. I haven't had any trouble with the fabric matting down. Even if it starts to do that, I wouldn't care. The functionality is fantastic and that's what I care about.

My mom loved mine, so as a Christmas gift for this year, I went ahead and purchased one for her in the winter white. And what a steal of a deal! I got the jacket for about one hundred dollars cheaper than my husband purchased mine for. Shop early and save!

Anyway, again, I haven't had trouble at all with the jacket. I am a fitness instructor and wear this to the gym all the time. That means I wash it bi-weekly to keep the deodorant and sweat off of it. Hold up great. Ready for winter to get here so I can get it out of the closet.

This is the best jacket I've ever had! It's extremely soft and very warm. I live in the southeast so it's a good mild winter jacket (mid 30s to mid 50s). I got the black one and prefer it because it's casual, but can work with dressier items. I'm a rock climber and have found I can wear it on the routes comfortably. People tell me not to wash it because the fleece comes out of the drier looking a little weird, so remember this is you buy the white jacket and end up staining it. I highly recommend this for the outdoorsy type!

This is a great jacket. Very warm. Doesn't protect against the wind too well. I ordered the Sea Salt color expecting it to be an off white and it was a white white. I was contemplating on returning it to get a different color, but decided to go for it. I get lots of compliments on it and comments about how i keep it clean. I've gotten chocolate on it, but it's come right out with a paper towel and some hand sanitizer!

My boyfriend got me a black one for xmas and I loved it so much I bought the Black Cherry. Very warm, plush inside and out. Decent wind-breaking ability. I love the sleeve design, the cuff material is super soft inside and since it's not plush, you won't get matting or excessive wear marks. It's a great every-day cool weather jacket. I bought a size up (large) because I like extra room in my jackets to comfortably layer although the medium did fit beautifully. If it had been available in the Black Cherry I would have gotten it for an under layer for my cold weather coat.
