5.0 out of 5 stars Works great, even in cold weather, December 6, 2010
This review is from: Mountain House Oven Flameless Heating Kit for Pouches - Hiking, Camping, Fishing, Hunting and Outdoor Recreation (Misc.)
I've had one of these heating kits for a few years now and decided to give it a try.

I left the kit, a Mountain House meal pack and water out in my vehicle overnight. Temperatures were below freezing (around 30 degrees f) overnight and ambient temp was probably high 30's F when I did this test. Everything was definitely cold-soaked. I prepared the meal and prepped the kit per the instructions, using ambient temperature water. The small bottle that comes with the kit for mixing the "salt" tablet (or whatever it is) takes just under 1 cup of water. Once everything was mixed, I dropped the meal pouch into the heat kit, sealed it up and left it out in the cold morning air (in the shade, but off the ground) for 20 minutes as directed.

I expected the meal to take longer than 20 minutes to heat up, but it was nice and hot right on time. The kit was actually still giving off a good amount of heat, so I bet you could squeeze another meal out of it if you shortened the cook time and/or used warmer components.
