We purchased a couple different #10 cans from Mountain House for our fishing vacation. We were flying into the site, so had a very strict weight limit. We simply could not bring eggs, bacon, ground beef etc due to those limitations. We did not expect any of it to actually taste good, but we were prepared to make due. Much to our surprise, it was all VERY good.
The eggs and bacon were delicious - and I don't mean in a "really good for freeze dried food" kind of way. If we'd eaten this at a coffee shop, we'd have said the same thing. It was really flavorful and the texture was no different than fresh cooked eggs. We had brought a small bottle of hot sauce in preparation of needing to mask the taste, but it wasn't needed. The eggs have a smokey flavor which matches very well with the bacon. For breakfast, I made an entire can for our party of 5 (including 3 men who eat a lot). We had just a small amount left over, so hopefully that would help you judge how much you would need.
The ground beef was also a very pleasant surprise. The only difference between the rehydrated freeze-dried ground beef and freshly browned ground beef was the absence of grease. The flavor and texture were the same. We made a big pot of chili one day for lunch, and spaghetti on a night that the fishing was slow. We didn't skimp with the ground beef on either meal, yet still had around 1/3 of the can left after those 2 meals. My guess-timation would be that there is the equivalent of around 4-5lbs of ground beef in the can after it rehydrates.
These products are not cheap of course, but they were exactly what we needed. The taste was so fantastic that we are going to purchase more to keep in our pantry for future use.

The eggs and bacon was actually delicious! After a few days on the trail, this was an awesome meal. My only suggestion is dump the extra water before you serve.

Mountain House #10 Can Precooked Scrambled Eggs w/Bacon (16 2/3 cup servings) exceeded my expectations. Would I rather have 2 fresh scrambled eggs with a slab of bacon, of course. But this was very tasty for anytime you dont have access to that. this can fed 4 men breakfast for 2 days (large portions). The can I got was freshly packaged with a best buy date of 2038. I will be buying more.

This review is for the precooked scrambled eggs and not other Mountain House products (which are actually very good). I can't believe another reviewer gave this 5 stars. This stuff is the worst Mountain House product there is. The eggs have a styrofoam consistency and the bacon is just tiny little chips. As an avid camper, I know what I talking about having eaten freeze dried food for years. Buy the (Mountain House) uncooked freeze dried eggs which cook up just like real eggs. They're at least 10 times better. If you really need bacon then get some dried bacon chips at your supermarket. Same weight and much better taste.

Who would eat this stuff as part of a regular menu? This is bulk-packaged camping/survival food. The shelf life on unopened cans is about 30 years if stored correctly at a cool temperature 60 degrees F or lower. High temperatures decrease the shelf life by 2/3 or more. In a #10 can, you probably have 20 servings that need to be consumed in under a month; however, you can extend the shelf-life of an opened can by freezing it.

Nice tin can storage unit, I don't know why I expected them to be in individual packaging but that's alright. Mine will pretty much be delicious 25 years from now anyway, they are emergency food rations after all! Good product, highly recommended for "Just in case" situations.

P.S. I heard they last up to two weeks after they've been opened, just make sure the plastic cap is on it after you removed the top metal part.
