5.0 out of 5 stars He liked it!!
I bought his for my boyfriend to take with him on his camping trip. He came back and told me that the chicken and rice was the greatest. He told me it was as good as homemade chicken and rice. The chicken was perfect and juicy and the rice was just the way he liked it. I was surprised when he told me this because, to be honest, eating dry packaged food that you add water...

2.0 out of 5 stars Good product, misleading description
The description on this product is misleading... states there are six pouches per case. Overpriced at $8.50. This product is available at Walmart for 5 bucks and change. I have used this product before on hiking trips and it is a good product - lightweight and tasty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for what it's made for, May 23, 2011
This review is from: Mountain House Rice and Chicken - Serves 2 (Sports)
I've been building a "bug-out" bag for me and my wife and realized I had no rations of any sort. I've always been skeptical about buying these kinds of food but I figured what the hell. I bought two Mountain House meals. One was this product and the other was their scrambled eggs and bacon. I thought they were both great.

Most freeze dried food or any food meant for "long shelf life" are meant for two things. 1.) To give you the nutrition your body needs to continue activities and 2.) to be somewhat compact and let you use other items of importance. Mountain house does both. Yea the package is a little bulky. but you can work with it.

I hate those people that try these things and complain about the taste. If your that picky then you shouldn't be eating what's considered by alot to be "survival food".

Bottom line is the food is great for the price and for what it's meant for. I sat down on a weekend and ate the two bags completely.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious!, December 4, 2008

This is a wonderful entree, without the characteristic "freeze-dried" taste. It is a bit salty, so it may not appeal to all, but we like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than others, November 27, 2009

After a long day hiking I was happy to have warm food that was tasty. It's freeze dried so naturally it could always be better but I'm sure we've all eaten worse things and paid way more.

I didn't expect much despite the fairly positive reviews. It was a decent meal for two and very convenient. I'll be buying more of these.

The rice and chicken has to be the best out of all the ones I have tried. It just tastes perfect, not too salty not too dull nor too weird, just the perfect combination of rice and chicken.

This is one that you should pack when going camping or in other trips.

If you are hardcore and/or are a big guy consider getting the bag that serves 2 people. I could not finish that one so I'll get the 1 serving next time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yummy, light, and easy to prepare, February 22, 2012

This meal is easy to take. That's it! In a nutshell, it gives a good caloric count, a decent amount of protein, no indigestion, sticks to your ribs so you don't feel hungry again in just a couple of hours, and doesn't weigh much or take up too much space in your backpack. As freeze dried food, they last a long time with no refrigeration required.

You can easily carry enough of these, along with my favorite granola Mountain House for breakfast, for a few days. Alternatively, if your car smashes through a guard rail in the mountains and you are not found for a while, well, at least you can eat while you drain your cell phone battery making fruitless "HELP ME" calls to non-existent cell towers. Or snowed in. Or lost electricity and gas stove and have to live off your camping stuff for a few days. And preppers are welcome, too.

You can extend the usefulness of this item by taking your own minute rice to extend the meals to serve more people. If you had kidney beans or other extenders with lots of protein, that would help, too.

But, these just taste good. Enjoy!

1.0 out of 5 stars MISLEADING!!!, February 10, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The item is listed $39.80 marked down %75 to $9.70, it states 6 come in a case and shipping weight is 2 lbs. Which at 6ounces a pkg would insist that this is a case you are purchasing. But when item was recieved i had only one pkg in a an envelope now how in the hell is one pkg $39.80 and 2 lbs LIARS they are!!!!!! BEWARE.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Tasty., January 14, 2012
By
Elly (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
I first bought a packet of this from Sports Chalet as a tester to try before deciding on what #10 cans to add to emergency stock. The flavor tastes like low sodium chicken rice-a-roni, the rice has the consistency of minute rice, and the chicken chunks are surprisingly tender when rehydrated. it's a very simple flavor, but it's super tasty. It's very easy to eat and doesn't taste like emergency food, it's tastes more like college student food.
