5.0 out of 5 stars This Is THE Best Snake Natural History I've Ever Seen..., January 7, 2005
This review is from: Mountain Kings: A Collective Natural History of California, Sonoran, Durango and Queretaro Mountain Kingsnakes (Paperback)
This book is a breath of fresh air in the world of reptile literature. The combination of extremely detailed life history information on these seldom seen snakes, coupled with the great photos of individual subspecies and habitats is amazing. I especially enjoyed the personal writing style of the author, who not only describes the smallest details about the lives of these snakes in nature, but also leads the reader on field excursions to seek them out. A book like this has been a long time in coming, and if you don't already own it, you have no idea what you're missing. There are even two fold-out range maps that describe the ranges of the various mountain kingsnake species in great detail, something that is lacking in almost every other publication I have ever seen. I still can't believe the amount of habitat photos that are included. I think they may outnumber the photos of the snakes themselves. OUTSTANDING, Mr. Hubbs. I can't wait to see your next book.
