5.0 out of 5 stars Best Zombie Book On Kindle February 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I just finished reading Mountain Man and have to say it is, in my opinion, the best written Zombie novel on kindle. So much so that I felt I should write this review, my first ever. While the action is great this is a character driven story from my point of view because this author can actually write. Due to the authors talent with his characters this novel has a very unique and original feel in its approach to telling a story within a Zombie Apocalypse setting. The book was a great mix of true zombie gore and character development. Not a fast paced thrill ride, not a knock in this case, but a thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining read. The climatic action sequence was exceptional by the way. This is one of only two zombie books with a scene that actually had me laughing uncontrollably. It wasn't that the scene, I won't spoil it for you, was hysterically funny on it's own merit but the fact that I had come to feel like I truly had gotten to the know the character's involved and, like a close friend accidentally spewing beer out of his nose, it just makes you laugh your ass off. It might have been just me since I was up till 2am because I could not put the book down. Gus is such a well fleshed out, pardon the expression, main character. You sympathize with him, feel like you know who this guy is, and wish you hand a chance to meet him. You can't help but want to be a part of the story to help him kick some zombie/human asses, down a lethal amount of rum and whiskey out on the balcony, or pat him on the back when he is hurting. The only change I would have made is to have Gus a marlboro red man. Cigs go so well with booze after all. The only thing further I have to add is where is the line for the sequel and when is it coming out.

Here's a book with a really flawed main character. Gus didn't see the apocalypse coming and put the ultimate survival plan into effect. He got lucky and found someone else's. He's an alcoholic and finds a liquor distributorship. Since it takes place in Canada he's always looking for guns and ammunition instead of having a well stocked arsenal. He makes mistakes. He swears. Some say too much. Come on, I suppose they would expect something like "Well, golly dang, here comes another zombie hoard that wants to eat me alive."
Gus soon partners up with Scott who is just a step or two up on the cooth ladder from Gus and the drinking and zombie smashing continues. They break things, they screw up and they find a way to survive, not in the macho "ready for anything" mode, but in the more realistic "wish I hadn't done that" mode.
I think most readers will really enjoy this book.

Loved, Loved, Loved this series, the only complaint I have is not one I can share as it will ruin the book for those of you wondering if the book is any good.
This book and the rest of the series which I purchased within two days of each other were pure action set on greased wheels. I loved going into the stores,
going through abandoned homes, killing zombies, and Gus was so down to earth, loved the guy. Writer kept me very entertained and I hope to see more in this
series after Hellifax which I picked up this evening. GREAT BOOK KEITH add more to the series!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
