5.0 out of 5 stars I can't neglect praying for China
I was in China this past month (May, 2002) and was given this book by a friend to read. I couldn't stop reading it! It was too convicting. My prayer life, spirtual life, and personal life has changed forever. A must read for those who who want to know God's formula for answered prayer.

Mountain Rain, is a true story about the Chinese missionary James O. Fraser, his powerful dependence on God, and all that he went through in his lifetime to establish God's work in South-West China. The text isn't particularly well written, but its content and subject material is excellent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Missionary Novel I have Ever Read, March 9, 2001

This review is from: Mountain Rain: a new biography of james o fraser (Paperback)
Eileen Crossman's account of her father's incredible life among the minority tribes of China is a story like no other. Here is a man who inspired other great missionaries like Isobel Kuhn to go to China. To read how God took this young single man and placed him a lonely country to reach the unreached inspired me beyond no end. I still think of his words of how he came to the point of learning to be content in the midst of great difficulties. I highly recommend this book to all Christians who are even remotely considering the missionfield.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mountain Rain--A Powerful Message of Commitment, May 13, 2003
By
I have read this book in the past and recently, as I was recommending it to another person, decided I needed to read it again. It is a powerful true story compiled from primary and secondary records of the life of a pioneer missionary in SW China in the early part of this century. The passion of James Fraser's life seems to have been reaching the Lisu tribal group with the gospel of Christ. The depth of his commitment to these people and his total dependance on God and the prayers of his supporters is seen throughout the story. There are times of crushing discouragement as well as times of great rejoicing.
If you love stories of missionary pioneers and/or tales of the lives of tribal groups in remote areas, you will be well rewarded for your reading time.
I am on-line now to buy a copy of it for a friend, for whatever that may say!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Missionary, August 10, 2006
This book is a great book and very inspiring for anyone to read. What the Lord accomplished through James O. Fraser is encouraging for any beliver who has a passion and heart for souls. I work for Heart of God Ministries and we train long-term church planters and this book is a book we often recommend people to read this book if they are considering long-term misisonary service. His character and qualities is something that we look forward to encourage in those whom we train. Great book!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Epic Adventure with God, March 4, 2011
This is the book that first lit my heart for global missions. It sent my heart racing and taught me the power of believing prayer. God used this book to catalyze a change in my life's direction : after reading it, I found it impossible to get the myriads dying around the world without even hearing about Jesus off of my mind. Now, years later and with missions as my primary focus and career, I keep a copy of Mountain Rain to reread when every my courage might waver. Thank you James Fraser and thank you Lord!

Mountain Rain, is a true story about the Chinese missionary James O. Fraser, his powerful dependence on God, and all that he went through in his lifetime to establish God's work in South-West China. The text isn't particularly well written, but its content and subject material is excellent.

James, while experiencing bouts of depression, loneliness, and arduous labor without much visible fruit, presses forward in God's work, while also experiencing many physical hardships, continual demonic opposition, and repeated illnesses. After years of effort, the Lisu people experience a great outpouring of God's Spirit--mountain rain!

At 42, he marries, fathers two girls and dies ten years later, due to a body that had not been taken care of and had resultantly been depleted by hard work and extreme living conditions. The kingdom fruit (a written Lisu language, a Bible in Lisu, a mighty move of God amongst the Lisu, ...) outlive James' life.

The book contains inspiration for anyone interested in doing cross cultural mission work and especially to those called to unreached remote people groups of this world. It contains a host of lessons on prayer, faith, self-discipline, discouragement, loneliness, depression, rest in God, ...

Worth reading!
