Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
"Mountain Stage" was a two hour radio broadcast from West Virginia that would feature three or four acts/bands from a live concert setting and was always an interesting show. This is Vol. 6 and ten acts are on this one from Bruce Hornsby, Cracker, R.E.M. to Paul Brady, Col. Bruce Hampton & The Aquarium Rescue Unit and Iris Dement. This disc has a running time of 41 minutes and it seems rather short when there is room to almost double it's length with more music.

The lead-off track is my favorite and it's Bruce Hornsby performing his version of Bob Dylan's "Girl From The North Country" Cracker, sounds as great as always with "Mister Wrong" and R.E.M. is sounding moody and removed with "World Leader Pretend" with a weird accordian that makes the lads sound right at home up in the woods. Nanci Griffith performs "Outbound Plane" and the acoustic guitars are bouncing off the trees in a fine fashion as this suits the show perfect. I always thought that Iris DeMent was the original coal miner's daugther and she nails it with "After You're Gone' and Paul Brady does a fine job with "Blue World." "Working On A Building" from Col. Bruce Hampton & The Aquarium Rescue Unit closes down this disc and if you like em' weird this Rescue Unit is for you.

There are a few of these Mountain Stage CD's still available here for purchase and it isn't hard to find a real nice one. Good hunting.
Four Stars!
