Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Hi, my name is Christy Davis. My children's books are fiction and full of mystery, adventure, fun and excitement. They're thrilling, chilling, scary, spooky and funny. They're about treasure hunts, pirates, caves, mountain men, monsters, scary monsters, possessed houses, good ghosts, bad ghosts, girls, boys, dogs, cats, rats, bats, agents, secret agents, spies, kid reporters, good guys, bad guys, graveyards, caveboys, dinosaurs, saber-tooth tigers, notes in bottles, haunted mansions, secret passageways, stormy nights and action packed days. The kids find themselves jumping, running, being chased, running, hiding, falling, (a lot of screaming and running,) setting booby traps, spying on people, inventing things, reporting and writing stories, investigating, problem solving, and solving mysteries. They learn how to depend on each other. They attend funerals and weddings, blow up science labs, sword fight with pirates, build rafts, swim, dive off yard arms, capture ghosts, solve old mysteries, create fire and weapons, fish, play chess and still manage to stay alive so I can bring them all back again for part II.

These are fun filled, action packed, mystery adventures.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE MOUNTAIN OF STONE, August 10, 2005
This review is from: The Mountain of Stone (Paperback)
I read all of Christy's books, this one is really good. This is the description on the back of the book: What would you do if you found a message in a bottle? What if it told of treasure and death? Could you find it? Would you even try? And, if you could figure it out, would you have the courage to go after it?

That's exactly what happens to Jenny and her best friend Laura. Puzzled by the scrap of paper the found sealed in an old bottle the adventure begins. Was the note real? Who was Gus? Who was after him? What kind of treasure was it?

Join seven kids on an adventure inside: The Mountain of Stone. I really liked it!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Mountain of Stone, August 11, 2005

Title: The Mountain of Stone

Exciting Read ........ Recommended .......... 4. 5 stars

The Review
The narrative opens with Jenny smiling on the first day of summer vacation. At last the school year has ended and next year Jenny will be starting High School. When Jenny's parents announced they were planning a move from San Francisco to Millersville, Jenny was less than thrilled. That was two years ago and now Jenny has a new best friend Laura and loves her new life. Everything is pretty great except when Jenny and Laura must deal with Laura's little brothers Alan and Casey the boys are only six and seven however, they are less problem than Laura's older brother John and Jenny's older brother Ben.

Backpacks filled with supplies, an unexpected slide into the interior of the mountain, a skeleton, another bottle, a trapdoor, more skeletons, something that growls, and more notes all figure in the adventure before the kids find their way out of the cave.

Writer Davis has crafted a quick, fun read meant for kids in middle grades. Repartee between the siblings is typical, believable and real. That The Mountain of Stone is a kid's adventure that might well take place is a good part of the draw for kids in the target audience. Writing is good, fast paced and easily read. Characters are detailed enough to give the reader a clear picture of who and what the kids are all about without being over done. Siblings squabble as youngsters do, grumble over chores and having to watch over `tag along' little brothers, also as youngsters do. The kids also work together when the situation calls for it and they care for one another when the going gets tough. The storyline itself is believable and acceptable.

Sure to please both boys and girls in the target audience The Mountain of Stone is a good choice for the home pleasure reading shelf, the home school reading list and the classroom library.

Enjoyed the read, happy to recommend.
