5.0 out of 5 stars you are most definitely drawn into the story; wonderful!

3.0 out of 5 stars It's an okay book
I thought the novel was somewhat good. The part of the novel that I enjoyed was the love story. I thought the love story was very sweet and interesting. I couldn't believe how long Oconeechee and Waguli's love lasted, even though they were apart for a long period of a time. The part of the novel that didn't have my interest was the historical facts. Other than that...

Using 4 different techniques and perspectives, Robert Conley really draws you into the tragic story of the Trail of Tears. Although ultimately the legendary lovers do not meet horrible ends, with the switches between grandfather and grandson, the legal documents drawn by the U.S. government, a song and the romantic story of two perhaps fictional Native Americans torn apart by the Trail of Tears, the book is impossible to put down. Both heart-wrenching and heart-warming! Definitely a must if you want to understand America's history a little more and engage in some leisure reading. Perfect for vacations.

5.0 out of 5 stars A love story during one of history's most tragic events., October 29, 1998

This review is from: Mountain Windsong: A Novel of the Trail of Tears (Paperback)
Robert J. Conley is a masterful storyteller who skillfully weaves an old story into a modern background. He starts with a grandfather and his grandson listening to the wind. Through their conversations, we are introduced to two lovers from the days of the Trail of Tears, when the world of the Cherokee people is shattering around them. Through the voices of his modern characters, Conley reveals some of the current aspects of Cherokee life. He also makes use of government documents from Andrew Jackson and others of that era, which though difficult to read, reveal exactly what the Cherokee were handed by the U.S. government.

The book Mountain Windsong is a wonderful reference to look back on Native American heritage. This novel gave me more information than any history class of my past. It helped me see a clear picture of the whole struggle for the Indians. The book made me feel bad and unhappy at times. It helped me learn about the struggle of the Trail of Tears. I will research more about Robert Conley books and peotry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well written, September 23, 2002
This review is from: Mountain Windsong: A Novel of the Trail of Tears (Paperback)
Mountain Windsong was a well written novel about the Trail of Tears. It had plenty of historic facts about the Cherokees that were very unknown events that took place. I believe it's very up to date for today's society.

In Robert J. Conley's Mountain Windsong a novel of The Trail of Tears, he thoroughly descibes the Cherokee nation. He gives us an imaginery view of their cultural style and does an excellent job indicating their beliefs. He is a superb writer. I definitely recommend others to read this fabulously written book that keeps you on the edge of your seat! Also if you enjoy love stories then you'll love this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars How It All Happened (Trail of Tears), September 19, 2002

I believe that Conley did an excellent job with his descriptive writing. I actually could picture the events as they happened. It captured me that the love of Waguli held the interest of Oconeechee. The only reason why I gave it four stars is because I got left hanging in the end. I guess we are to have out own future image of the ending. Everything seemed real and very informative at the same time. It also gave me a graphic picture of the Trail. I know that I would not have been able to bear the Trail. This book is worth reading. One more point the, chapters 5, 6, and 8 did not help me much in the understanding just bored me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Love Story, October 8, 2003
By
This review is from: Mountain Windsong: A Novel of the Trail of Tears (Paperback)
Robert J. Conley's book Mountain Windsong: Trail of tears was a wonderfully written book. I never before cared much about learning or reading about the indians. After reading this book I was glad that I read it. Mr. Conley's book was very informative and descriptive. Through a love story he told about the horrible treatment of the cherokee people by the white soliders. If you don't the first of the book, you won't get the rest of the book. If you get bored easy, just keep reading and it will get exciting. Your two main characters are Oconeechee(a girl) and Waguli(guy from the old town). Whenever I got done reading this book I felt sad because I never knew that the cherokee people got treated that way. I really enjoyed this book and encourage everyone who has a chance to read it.

4.0 out of 5 stars My point of View of Mountian Windsong, October 8, 2003

This review is from: Mountain Windsong: A Novel of the Trail of Tears (Paperback)
Robert J Conley wrote a very good novel. This book tells a story of two people, Oconeechee and Waguli, who are in love and planned to get marry just before the Trail of Tears started. It gives a good description on how the Trail of Tears was for those Cherokee that walked it. Despite that this book is fiction; it has many histories in it. It also shows many cultures of the Cherokees. It is not all romance, it has action, tragedy, and comedy it them as well. So if you like a good novel that shows Cherokee's culture, histories, and mostly romance, this would be a good book for you to read. I strongly suggest everyone to read this book and have your own opinion on it. This is my own opinion.
