Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The most versatile of Mountainsmith's three 2010 daypacks, the Red Rock 25 recycled bag is ideal for such crossover activities as day hikes, snowshoe trips, or bike commutes. The feature-rich daypack--which complies with the FAA regulations for airline carry-on use--is as comfortable on the tarmac as it is on the trail, with 1,648 cubic inches of storage for items like books, clothes, toiletries, or outdoor gear. The bag offers several pockets and attachment points, including a large main compartment, a front panel stash pocket, an interior organizer sleeve, an ice axe and tool loop, and dual trekking pole mounts. You can even attach a Mountainsmith camera case to the bag using the specially designed shoulder strap attachment loop.

The Red Rock 25 is comfortable and supportive throughout the day, with an Airmesh back panel with lumbar support and a removable waist belt. Proper hydration is always a concern on the trail, which is why the pack includes an internal hydration bladder sleeve (bladder not included). Perhaps the coolest feature, however, is the 100-percent recycled 450-denier ReDura PET body fabric. The pack is made using 15 recycled 16-ounce plastic bottles, making it a great choice for eco-conscious hikers.

Note: The sangria-colored Red Rock 25 includes a shoulder harness designed specifically for women.

The Red Rock 25 includes several straps and loops for carrying trekking poles, ice axes, and other tools.

Great Pack June 29, 2011
By Tom
I work as an ecologist/botanist this pack is perfect for long day in the field. The pockets on the inside of the small pouch are just right for a variety of things that i carry and I use the key clips for keys, lenses, compass etc. On the weekends I convert the pack to a diaper bag - it is just the right size for diapers, toys, snacks, camera and a change of clothes. I have given this bag a real beating and so far it has not showed any weak spots.

great for weekends May 17, 2010

This is a great bag for weekend trips. It fits comfortably and has chest and waist straps. You can strap a sleeping bag to it using the side straps. My husband and I did this with ease. It isn't all that roomy, but you should be able to see this from the picture. It is good for overnight trips or day hikes. It seems to be sewn together pretty good. There are enough compartments for snacks and water. We got a tent, rope, water, and few small things to fit in it. Like I said, great for weekends.

Tough and Functional September 25, 2011
I use this pack primarily as a wilderness daypack. It's basically a book bag on steroids, but that is exactly what I was looking for. I like the fact that it has two strong water bottle side pockets in addition to the usual water bladder sleeve. I also think that the trekking pole straps are very functional, better than those on my high-end overnight backpacks. It's the perfect size for a three-season daypack and I find the dual-compartment layout very handy. The pack appears to be very well made.

I had no use for the waist belt, so I cut it off since it just gets in the way. It's not designed to be load-bearing anyway. I suppose if I were rapelling down a cliff the belt would keep the pack against my body, but I'm not into technical climbing.
