Book Description

August 31, 2004
Mountmellick is a style of embroidery dating from around 1825 and originating from the town of Mountmellick in County Laois, Ireland. The embroidery is always white on white with a floral motif interpreted in a highly textured stitching. Mountmellick Embroidery: Inspired by Nature contains 15 beautiful projects created to appeal to a wide range of contemporary tastes. Each project has been especially designed for this book and is graded from beginner or intermediate to advance level. The book contains easy-to-follow step-by-step stitch and knitting instructions, project instructions, clear black and white diagrams, and a colour photograph of each finished project. There are two chapters of projects: one with traditional style designs and applications, and the other with traditional designs with contemporary applications. Whatever the reader's experience or tastes, Mountmellick Embroidery: Inspired by Nature has a range of projects to suit any creative desires.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favourite Mountmellick book, May 1, 2005

This review is from: Mountmellick Embroidery: Inspired by Nature (Paperback)
This book has some of the best stitch diagrams and instructions that I have ever seen! It has instructions for knitting the fringe, and 15 gorgeous projects. I don't know which one to do first! The projects presented are in historically accurate traditional style - which is important!

There is also a section on the history of Mountmellick, and the characteristics of Mountmellick embroidery.

If you want to learn Mountmellick embroidery from people who know what they're talking about, then you need this book!
