Hilarious.,

This review is from: Mourner at the Door (Lish, Gordon) (Paperback)
The clearest memory I have from my brother's horrible funeral was a friend of my sister's showing me a dirty playing card with an old man reclining on a studio mock up of a rocky cliff regarding his uncircumcised manhood. I luaghed. I mean really really luaghed. This collection of stories also makes me laugh like I laughed at the funeral where I saw that dirty card.

This review is from: Mourner at the Door (Contemporary American fiction) (Paperback)
These are short stories -very short, but packed with the love of language. Lish uses the vernacular, in particular, stereotypical Jewish, in a unique way. (There was even a law suit involving a professor that was sued -sucessfully- by Lish concerning his unique style). They are hilarious and should be read aloud, because it's like being on stage. These stories are really comments on life, containing the histories of the people in them. What a schtick!
