4.0 out of 5 stars Some Old - Yet New..., August 19, 2007

This review is from: The Mourning Ritual (Audio CD)
System Syn has been around for quite some time, releasing album upon album from 1997 to 2004 and doing quite a few tribute albums in the process. This led to a signing in 2004, a move to Germany, a signing by Metropolis-Records in 2005, and another move to North America. During this time they released Postscript, a really good EBM album that was received with a lukewarm "hello," and then The Mourning Ritual - another EBM album that didn't receive a lot of notice. Personally I think that's somewhat sad because System Syn is a good band with normal EBM designs in the dancefloor melodies, a host of lyrics that are tasty when listened to, and vocals that remind me of everything from the older voxed sounds to Assemblage 23 letters of note - depending on what they're making.

On The Mourning Ritual, not much has changed in System Syn's formula and people who didn't like the first album might not like the second one. This doesn't mean that the album isn't a good one - as an EBM act, System Syn is actually really good. They have a lot of beats that bleed into one another and many of the dancefloor electronica is a beast that has been done - and redone - more than once. Still, System Syn has been a stand-out of sorts in my mind, making songs that can stick with you and that can hang in the headset as well as the dancefloor.

Personally I thought the album was worth picking up and, if you think it sounds like your type of thing, you can always check clips of the band at Metropolis-Records and see. Beats seem easy to find these days, but good bands - they are worth looking into. As far as System Syn is concerned, they have been around long enough to perfect their sound and have some really catchy sounds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome EBM/Industrial album., April 28, 2007
This review is from: The Mourning Ritual (Audio CD)
Worth the 15 bucks I paid for it easily. Dark Industrial rhythms mixed with EBM dance beats. The lyrics are not that strong but they get the job done. I love the way Clint sings for some reason....I think he should share duties in Imperative Reaction.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Mourning Ritual, December 6, 2009

System Syn is Imperative Reaction's Clint Carney's other band. I discovered System Syn through Imperative Reaction. I started off with their latest End and I immediately fell in love with System Syn's sound of synthpop and electro. The music is not as harsh as say Imperative Reaction's music yet just as melodic and dance friendly. Not long ago I bought The Mourning Ritual. I will admit the album didn't grab me right away like End did because the songs lacked the catchy pop hooks that made me fall in love with End. The more I listen to The Mourning Ritual, the more I have come to appreciate the songs. In fact I find myself listening more to System Syn than Imperative Reaction as of lately. I really enjoy listening to Clint Carney's distinctive vocals. My only beef with the album is the lack of diversity in the music. The songs sounds awfully like its follow up End. I feel that Clint and company should try to add elements of their other projects into System Syn's music. Overall for fans of Metropolis Records, System Syn is certainly worth recommendation from this new fan.
