5.0 out of 5 stars Cat and Mouse in the Haunted House
I am a 9 year old boy and it is one of the best books I've ever read. It's a mystery, it's funny and exciting. My sister can't wait to read it. Now I am buying more of the series!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not necessarily appropriate for young readers!
My 5 year old started reading the first two in this series and really enjoyed both of them. This one, however, gave him nightmares. Psychologically, it's probably more appropriate for 8 and 9 year olds. Younger kids may not be able to cope with the "scary" figures (ghosts, etc.) in this story.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Scary Adventure for Geronimo!, May 24, 2004
A Kid's Review
This book is awesome! Geronimo gets lost in the forest and has to spend the night in a haunted house! Geronimo gets really excited when he finds a library full of books, but he gets scared away by a ghost. The scariest part was when the ghost of Duke Slicepaw came out!

I like the way the book is printed with the words being different colors and styles. It has lots of pictures and maps too. It makes it easier for me to read it. I am going to read all fifty titles as they are translated from Italian to English!

This is the best of the first three books in the Geronimo Stilton series. I think you'll have a great time with this book.

Cat and Mouse in a Haunted House is definitely for intrepid youngsters, such as those who like to visit haunted houses where ghosts and goblins jump out at them on Halloween. If a youngster gets nervous when things go bump in the night, the beginning of this book might get in the way of good sleeping that night.

It was a dark night in October when Geronimo Stilton, the retiring editor of The Rodent's Gazette, was driving through the Dark Forest to visit his aunt Sweetfur who was vacationing in Sweet Paw Hills. The fog rolled in and the paved road ran out. Unexpectedly, Geronimo saw a sign pointing to Cannycat Castle, a place that he couldn't find on his map. Upon arriving at the castle, a lightning bolt shot down from the sky and the rain began to pour. He approached the castle and a light mysterious came on and went off in a tall tower. Geronimo finds it all a little overwhelming. Once inside, things get a lot spookier in a hurry!

In the midst of his terror, Geronimo gets a call from his sister, Thea. She immediately wants to see what's going on and tells him to wait for her. When Thea arrives, she brings jokester cousin Trap with her and their nephew, Benjamin. Trap keeps making fun of Geronimo who is embarrassed that everything spooky he has seen isn't there any more. What happened? Benjamin decides to be a detective and looks for clues.

It's an interesting mystery with a rewarding solution that any child will enjoy. Those who feel brave will feel encouraged to know that many spooky things are caused on purpose, not supernaturally by ghosts and goblins.

As with the other books in the series, the text is enlivened by printing words in bright colors and stimulating shapes that reflect their meaning and the emotions that they suggest. The illustrations are wonderful for bringing the atmosphere to just the right pitch.

I think it would be the most fun to read this in a dark room with only a small candle or some moonlight for illumination.

5.0 out of 5 stars nice introduction to chapter books, November 18, 2008
The synopsis of this story is that Geronimo Stilton, a mouse, is driving through the woods and has car trouble (and weather trouble) which cause him to find shelter in a haunted house (your typical Haunted House scenario). Soon his Sister, Cousin and Nephew join him, and the group searches to find out who is haunting Cannycat Castle. Great story to read around Halloween!

I am starting to introduce my 4 year old into chapter books and this series has been a big hit. The problem I've found in transitioning from picture books to chapter books is that younger kids (or at least mine) tend to lose interest in the pages without pictures. What is great about these books is that even the text pages are interesting to look at. Almost every page has a picture, and the ones that don't have pictures, have graphics embedded into the text. So you may find 2 or 3 words off set in different fonts, styles, and colors. And some key words and phrases are emphasized to draw in the reader's eye. This style keeps my son's attention, and even calls his attention to the words themselves. So he'll point to the word in spooky font and ask what that word says.

Honestly, I can not say enough about how well the graphics and illustrations really make this a great series. I absolutley recommend this if you are considering beginning chapter books with your child

5.0 out of 5 stars The mouse is just so loveable!!!, July 29, 2005

It's smart, it's humourous and it's clumpsy most of the time!

Kids of all age will love Geronimo. We have a quicker full set in Hong Kong printed in Chinese and I figure it's a great way to put the 2 language versions side by side to get kids interested in a 2nd / 3rd / 4th language! (Much easier than to get them sit down in front of TV in a foreign tongue.)

Don't I wish that I know Italian as well to apprecitate the original version.

this is a great book! It is about how geronimo's car brakes down as he goes for a visit at his grandmother sweetpaw's summer cabin in the dark woods. But of course he stumbles upon a huaunted old castle. Where the great Cannycats lived for million's of years. And so he calls his sister thea and guess what she says! If you are at a castle then pick a room and hit the sack!! But geronimo says he see's a ghost cat with a sliced off paw! and everytime he hears a CRRREEAAKK!!! So to find out what happends next read the book. called CAT AND MOUSE IN A HAUNTED HOUSE.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cat and Mouse in the Haunted House, May 19, 2007
A Kid's Review
I am in[..]and I read the Geronimo Stilton book called Cat and Mouse in the Haunted House for my final book report of the year. It was the best book ever! My favorite part about reading this Geronimo Stilton book was that it was very mysterious and had mummies, witches, and ghosts! That made the book even more exciting! I was holding my breath, waiting to see how the book would end. When I was reading, I could hardly wait to turn the page! I just couldn't read quick enough! Geronimo is a fun character, and I love reading about his adventures! Once I finished the book I was sad that it was over. I am so glad that there are many other books in the series! I definitely recommend this book and the rest of the Geronimo Stilton series to anyone reading this review. If you love great mysteries, I'm sure you will enjoy this book as much as I did! I hope my review was helpful and that you have a great time reading this book and other adventures about Geronimo!
