A picturebook that gives young readers a realistic look at what goes on in a meadow daily,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mouse in a Meadow (Paperback)
Informatively written in a simple, accessible, "kid friendly" text, and with detailed nature illustrations, Mouse In A Meadow by John Himmelman is a picturebook that gives young readers a realistic look at what goes on in a meadow daily. Showing a mouse, a weasel, birds, insects, and plants, and even an artist (only the hands of the artist are seen) capturing events on paper, Mouse In A Meadow is unafraid to show predators hunting their daily meals, whether it's spiders or birds trying to catch an insect or a weasel searching for the mouse in a meadow. The back of the book includes pictures of individual animals, insects, and plants for young readers to spot amid the pages of the story, and the final page offers some general information as to how meadows were created and offers reference books from which curious younger and older readers can learn more. An excellent book to stimulate young minds into thinking more about the natural world.
