The protagonist in the story is The Mouse, whose real name is Fred. He and The Selects, made up of three girls named, Bev, Sheri, and Ceil, plus Sheri's grandfather, and Sudden Sam who worked for Tiger Moran are all looking for lost money.
There is a rumor going around that his money was lost in the city before he mysteriously disappeared. The goal is to find it. The barrier is no one knows where it is. So they find Booster, a twelve year old boy, whose grandmother helped hide the money. Together they hope to find it and split the money.
This authors writing style is very unique. He writes in a rap/hip hop style. It goes along fine with the title, The Mouse Rap. There is just one thing about the writing style that bugged me. The Mouse is always going place to place doing different things, so it's hard to remember what the point of the story is. For example, one minute he might be playing basketball and the next he might be at the corner store buying coke for his mom.
So if you want a book with a ghetto type scene and you can handle a little confusion, this book is for you.

"You can call me Mouse, 'cause that's my tag I'm into it all, everything's my bag my ace is Styx, he'll always do Add Bev and Sheri, and you got my crew."

It is summer and The Mouse is chilling with his friends playing B-ball at the park. His summer is everything but boring. Every day he just hangs around and plays basketball or watches TV with his best friend. The rumor of a huge cash stash in an abandoned building left by [a circa 1930's] gangster. The Mouse, Styx, Sheri, and Beverly all ask Beverley's grandpa and he said he used to run errands for him...

Later on in the story they have a treasure hunt for the gangsters gold. I wonder what happens next.

The Mouse Rap
Part II

Fredrick or as his friends call him, The Mouse, is a twelve-year-old boy that lives with his mom and step dad growing up in the Bronx. Mouse is always getting into trouble. His friends sometime makes fun of him because of his size and his Raps. The Mouse doesnt care; he just whips them in basketball. He has friends like omega, Styx, and this new girl named Beverly that the Mouse has a crush on. The Mouse also likes to play basketball with his friends. One time, he played with his friends against a person named Bobby in a basketball game and The Mouse beat Bobby. After the basketball game, Bobby goes after The Mouse and tries to beat him up. Suddenly, Beverly shows up out of no where and beats up Bobby. Bobby never bothered The Mouse again. The Mouse thanked Beverly saying that he didnt need her help, went back home and ate the wonderful macaroni that his mother makes him all the time. On the next day he goes to Styx house and finds out that there is 10 million dollars that a gang leader named Tiger Morton that is now dead has hid. So he goes with his friends and tries to find the treasure. When he finds the place was the treasure is, its locked. The next day, he opens the door and it is unlocked. He goes in and finds out that the treasure is gone and a policeman took it and gave it to the city. Everything turns out good and it is a happy ending.

This book was ok, it is mainly boring on some parts and exciting on others. If you read the book youll get kind of sad and happy. Youll laugh on some parts and get puzzled on others. I would suggest for a 5th and 6th age level group for this book. Over all, the book it great, sad, mad, and funny at the same time.

3.0 out of 5 stars My Review, February 9, 2007
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Mouse Rap (Paperback)
I really enjoyed The Mouse Rap because it had a lot of different conflicts going on, and I think that the raps in every chapter are cool. The author Walter Dean Myers has a great personality and the book is great for any teenagers or adults to read. It is enjoyable to read a book when you are rapped up and who wants to wait and see what happens next.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Mouse Rap (Paperback)
This book for the most part was boring!!! I only liked the part when they went to the bank and got all the money. I also liked the characters but that's all. I would give this book two stars. I think the author coul have concentrated in one part liked the bank than in like ten things a chapter. I would probably like this book if that happened. I would really not recomend this book. Don't buy it.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Mouse Rap (Paperback)
I think the Mouse Rap is really an exciting book for kids that like books of adventurous happenings in each chapter you read. This book is good for several reasons. One reason is because Walter Dean Myers is an outstanding writer for kids and teenagers. He writes from experience in his life and what he knows. This book I think was a book I could recommend to my friends and others. I am now reading one of his best selling books "Monster" and so far it has really caught my attention. I would recommend this book from 12 years old and up. So as you can see Walter dean Myers is a writer that you can understand where his point of view is coming from.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Mouse Rap reveiw, February 9, 2007
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Mouse Rap (Paperback)
After reading the book you think man wasn't that boring but actually kind of interesting, because there is adventure and excitement. Even though it was kind of cool it got boring towards the middle of the book because when Mouse and Styx got in a fight and when Beverly beat up that one bully. All in all the book was fantastic and in some cases okay but if had to recommend this book than I probably would because it has cool raps and phrases, but still is a good book to read!
