This is a great little tale about how we express our feelings in different ways (Bear stomps his foot, Bobcat screams, etc. - but what does Mouse do?).

While, if I'm being *totally* picky I could say that I wanted a little better resolution at the end, but the story is still great and the adorableness completely makes up for it!

The moral I got from the story? That we all have different ways to express our emotions, and that one way is not better than another, we just need to find the one that's right for us. And this was certainly a fun way to "learn" that lesson! :)

Mouse is really, really, mad, but has a hard time expressing his feelings. His friends Hare, Bear, Hedgehog, and Bobcat try to help, but their methods don't work well for Mouse. In the end he figures out his own way to manage his anger. This is a great read-aloud for preschoolers, and the comical illustrations by Henry Cole really add to the narrative.

Bought this book for my almost two year old. He loves it! The pictures are wonderful and keeps his interest. The story ends with mouse deciding to hop into a bath full of bubbles - a favorite of my son. It's perfect to read before bed time. The humor in the book is entertaining for parents as well -- I imagine we will read for many years to come.

Mouse is very angry! He is having a serious temper tantrum. As he is having this fit several of his animals friends pass by. His friends try to tell him that he is expressing his anger in the wrong way and they each give him ideas on how to do it better. He finally just tries to be still and quiet and finds that this is the best anger management technique for him. This book would be prefect to open discussions on how to handle anger.

Hats off to Linda Urban and Henry Cole for cleverly showing preschoolers how to deal with anger without preaching or chastising! If you're looking for a book to help your preschooler grapple with anger, this is it. Lovely illustrations accompanied by simple text in a comical setting combine to make a truly winning combination. Mouse starts the book "hopping" mad. But after encountering a hare, a bear, a bobcat and a hedgehog -- all of whom have their own ways of dealing with anger -- he learns the best way to deal with it... his own! Great storyline, equally charming illustrations and a fantastic moral to boot! Not only fun to read, but also act out, as you mimic each animals' suggestion on how to cope with anger, whether that be stomping like the bear, or hopping like the hare.

Mom, Dad and the kids love this book. After the first time reading it, our daughter (4) took the book and went over all the pages again to review every splosh! and every action like stomping or jumping again.

Lovely. But, my kid thinks it's just funny and it hasn't helped much with discussing feelings.

When Mouse gets mad, he hops, he stomps, he screams and he rolls around on the ground. But some other animal always does it better than he; until Mouse gets so mad that he stands very, very still. None of the other animals can stand as still as Mouse. And, Mouse stands so still that he is no longer mad. Children ages 3-6 will delight in finding out that we all get angry and we all cope in different ways.

Linda Urban's MOUSE WAS MAD tells of how a host of animal characters express anger. Mouse just can't seem to get it right on the 'how' despite lessons from others: can he discover his own unique way of displaying anger?
