PreSchool-- Although the premise of these British imports is good, they fall short of their potential. Each follows its subject from birth through 12 and 8 weeks, respectively. Clear photographs--closeup and full body of the animals in action and at rest--are just what preschoolers need. However, the images stand on the pages sans background or any other objects with which to compare them for size. Mouse shows the creatures in a nest; there's no indication of how or where sheep live. The brief texts are written in the first-person voice, speaking of brothers and sisters and other anthropomorphisms. Barrie Watts is an award-winning natural history photographer. He has produced photographs for the Eyewitness and Stopwatch series, and for the Franklin Watts series Minibeasts. The Watch It Grow series has been both written and photographed by him. Barrie lives in North Wales.
