4.0 out of 5 stars Cute non-scary Halloween story, September 23, 2000
By
"mollycc" (Colorado, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mouse's First Halloween (Hardcover)
This story would be great to read aloud to preschoolers. It has good "sound effects", and the illustrations depict nighttime without being scary. The little mouse hears and sees different things and is at first scared, but then realizes that there is nothing to be frightened of. Children will also have fun guessing what is going to appear on the next page based on the sounds and shadows shown.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Little Spooky; A Lot of Fun, October 2, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Mouse's First Halloween (Hardcover)
This is a perfect book for children just learning about Halloween. Children do like to see that scary things can turn out all right. The mouse in this story is adorable and the perfect character for children to relate to at Halloween.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute Halloween Tale., September 17, 2000
This review is from: Mouse's First Halloween (Hardcover)
The pictures and the words in MOUSES FIRST HALLOWEEN are so cute! The author writes about a mouse who hears a sound on one page and gets scared. Then, when you turn the page you find out what the sound was and that it was nothing to be afraid of. This would be perfect for a K-1 class lesson on making predictions. The students would have so much fun trying to guess what it was that mouse heard. The kids will love the illustrations in the book and will have a great time reading it after it has been read to the class!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not so Spooky..., September 14, 2007
This review is from: Mouse's First Halloween (Hardcover)
Buket Erdogan's illustrations are perfect for this story. She paints in acrylics, therefore the colors are bold and intense, yet the mood is somewhat ominous. The book is set outdoors at night, so it supposed to be dark. The illustrations may be too gloomy for say a 1-year old, but my son was three when I picked up this book, and he was delighted with the Mouse story. This book taught my kid that bats aren't scary, and neither are jack-o-lanterns. I'm not particularly fond of rodents, but Mouse can come and visit anytime. Perfect first Halloween book.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Adorable Halloween Tale, October 16, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Mouse's First Halloween (Hardcover)
My son, age 4, and I first picked out this book at our local library and it became an immediate favorite. The illustrations are adorable and the rhythmic verse is delightful. After reading aloud to my son over the course of several nights he memorized it! Now I am purchasing the book because he does not want to return his copy to the library. Now, my son gets great pleasure reading to his mommy and daddy. I must say we are brimming with pride ourselves. I even told my son's teacher- "let him read the story to you!"

My 2-1/2 year old loves this book! Even though the recommended age is 4-8, this book is perfect for younger toddlers. The story is simple and short, perfect for toddlers, and the pictures are cute too. The mouse hears different noises on Halloween night and finds out that nothing is scary. I plan to get all the Mouse's First.. books.

5.0 out of 5 stars "I want to read 'Eek Mouse, Mama!'", October 2, 2010

I picked this up at a bookfair, thinking it would help prepare the 1 year old for Halloween, but the 4 year old LOVES it, too, and not a night goes by that he doesn't ask to read it. There are plenty of cute illustrations to talk about, the story is short and cute, and who couldn't love such an adorable mouse? I've ordered a couple more of the "mouse" series, since this one is a huge hit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for youngsters!, February 18, 2010

This review is from: Mouse's First Halloween (Hardcover)
The product description says for ages 4-8. I think that is a bit unrealistic. My 2.5 year old LOVES this book. It has simple dialog with great descriptive sounds. He likes it so much because the phrases are simple enough that he can recite it along with us when we read it to him. He loves reading back the sound words such as 'Flit, Flit, Flit', 'Creep, Creep, Creep' and 'Rustle, Rustle, Rustle'. But his favorite phrases are on every other page "Eeek! Mouse squeaked." and "What could it be."

Because he loves these phrases so much, and recites them along with us, his speech is getting much clearer too.
