Book Description

Though set at Disney World, this collection is far from Disneyesque (as if the title wasn't a giveaway.) Mouseschawitz - My Summer Job of Concentrated Fun - is Part 1 of a short collection of essays from an ex theme park employee and the unbelievable feats she witnessed one summer. From deadly wildlife to celebrity encounters, to guests attempting makeshift abortions on rides, these tales cover all kinds of thrills in the happiest place on earth.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Angela Lovell is not just someone who slapped together a few Disney stories. She has published other (non-Disney) books, and her work has appeared in such venerable venues as High Times, Opium Magazine, and MTV. She writes humor that is equal parts absurd and scathingly funny. That's your warning." - Bob McLain, Disney Dispatch

"Her first ambition was to become a character. She fell short of that goal and ended up as an Attractions Host at Splash Mountain. The blow by blow of the process makes the booklet worth the price alone. To say that the booklet is a quick read is an understatement. This is a really, really short book. But for $3 it is about as unvarnished look at the life of a Cast Member then anything in print this side of Cast Member Confidential." - SamLand's Disney Adventures

4.0 out of 5 stars LOL - Quick But Great Read! April 5, 2011

Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I've always wanted to hear the amazingly miserable stories of a summer working at Disney. I'd heard horror stories of backs permanently damaged by the loveable costumes, so I expected a zany read here and Lovell doesn't disappoint. Her anecdotes move at a fast pace and cover a lot of ground across the theme park: accidents, job advancement, awkward encounters with celebrities.... There are big laughs here and Lovell is a master at dropping in telling details. With deceptively few words and in unexpected ways, she reveals so much about the remembered characters from her past. There's also a sharpness in the reality in these recollections, a poignancy tempered throughout by laugh-out-loud wicked one liners. I'm left hoping she's got dozens more stories to tell about this summer job, or dozens more summer jobs to tell write about.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great airplane read! June 29, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I needed some stories to keep me entertained on a long plane ride recently. I wish there was more! Who knew that fairyland in Florida had so many sordid stories! I love reading about the behind the scenes at any establishment, and what better place to read about the good old Disney World? Too bad she didn't capture more of her experiences on paper - I'm sure she has many more to tell!

I stumbled across this fantastically FUNNY short read and I can't wait for more! Hopefully this Angela Lovell gal gets crackin' on that soon (pretty please)! Reading her intelligent and witty recounts of her days working at the "happiest place on earth" made me feel as if we were sitting down over coffee and she told her hysterical stories. Reading all about that floating eyed snow white, costumes needing to be worn and crazy scrutiny on her "freakish facial features" made me thankful for never having to work there and that I came across this mid-day pick me up. I highly recommend everyone read this, you won't be disappointed AND get quite a few laughs too :).

1.0 out of 5 stars Why so short?
This book was painfully short and badly written. Good thing the subject matter was somewhat compelling or I would have written Amazon and demanded my $$ back.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disney stuff
It is almost an expose', Almost. It does let the reader see a side of Disney not available to the tourists.

Good book, author seems a little bitter over the experience. The book is interesting but very short. Could have been a magazine article.

To say this was a poorly written essay would be an over-statement. The concepts covered are intriguing, but only if there were some level of depth. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT!
Loved it! I don't quite get the negative reviews. Maybe people are just a little uptight. Read it if you're intelligent and can appreciate this type of humor.
