Neat single with some memorable b-sides,

Mouth was the first single released from Paradise Lost's 2001 album Believe in Nothing. Like all Paradise Lost singles (and man, they have a ton of them), it has a few gems that make it worth picking up. Here's what you get:
1. Mouth (album version) - This is a great song, and one my favorite tracks on Believe in Nothing. 2. Sway - This is one of two non-album tracks that are exclusive to this CD. There are a lot of electronic elements on this one, giving it a poppier overall sound. I don't love it. 3. Gone - Another exclusive, this is a slow, melancholy song that's really moving and has a gorgeous guitar solo. For me, this alone was worth the price of the CD. 4. Mouth (remix) - I'm not a fan of remixes, so this didn't do much for me. I can see how a remix would appeal to fans of Paradise Lost's more goth rocking material though. It's not essential by any means, but serious Paradise Lost fans are going to want to pick this single up for "Sway" and "Gone." Either that or track down the B-Sides and Rarities collection, which includes both songs.

Back on track!,

After the slightly dissapointing "Host" (not so much the fact that is so synthetic, but it was too long and didn't manage to carry itself all the way) I was a bit sceptic over the new single... then I heard it and was completly blown away. The perfect mix of Draconian Times and One Second, melody, riffs and everything was perfect. "Sway" sounds a bit like Theatre Of Tragedy's latest, and is not a masterpice, but a good song. "Gone" on the other hand is up there with the best things the band ever done. A calm haunting song that I just can't explain how beautiful it is. The last song, the Mouth mix is just the same song but with a little bit heavier drums... But, Paradise Lost is back, and they prove it with this single!

With sceptisism i ordered "Mouth" even after reading all the bad reviews on "Host". I was pleasently surprised to what i heard. You see, i think "Draconian Times" is one of the best and heaviest albums ever. I have all the older death metal Paradise Lost albums too. Then "One Second" came out, and it was a serious change. "Mouth" is a perfect blend of the two. Vocals are all clean, but the title track has some great guitar in it too. I have since ordered "Host" and very much looking forward to hearing this album. paradise lost is one of the most innovative, heavy, talented, and melodic bands around. Give em a shot again.

but it is still Paradise Lost even though it dosen't sound much like them. Hopefully they go back towards their old sound, or at least mix in their old sound with their new. This used to be one of my favorite bands. What happened?
