4.0 out of 5 stars A little tension, no pretention, February 2, 2000
By
This review is from: On the Mouth (Audio CD)
Delicate, youthful vocals strain to be heard above the controlled roar of guitars and bass, coming to terms with the horrors of running over a robin's egg with a lawnmower (Mower) or venting the frustration of a missing mail delivery (Package Theif). This is Superchunk. Refreshingly domestic. Yes. Rocking hooks larger than life. Yes. How can something so simple be so great? Listen for yourself. Pick up a guitar and try it yourself. Its not that simple. Superchunk just makes it seem easy, probably by leaving out the pretention, but keeping the zest of tension.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quintessential indie-rock, June 29, 1999

This review is from: On the Mouth (Audio CD)
This record made me want to be something more than I was...its spirited playing, passionate lyrics, and warm, punchy bass tones that ring through your rib cage make this a record you'll keep listening to year after year...styles comes and go, great records stick around - this is one of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Indie Rocker from Superchuck, April 27, 2004
This review is from: On the Mouth (Audio CD)
This is vintage Superchunk, one of the best from their collection of remarkably brilliant albums. As with "Here's Where the Strings Come In," Mac, Laura & Co. positively blast through "Precision Auto," "New Low," "For Tension," and "Package Thief," while demonstrating a clever range of emotion (on tracks like "Untied" and "Swallow That") short of the quiet falsetto melodies of "Indoor Living" and "Come Pick Me Up." Hands down great album, right up there with Superchunk's masterpiece, "No Pocky for Kitty."
