5.0 out of 5 stars Its great....buy it now!, February 19, 2005
This review is from: Mouthfeel (Audio CD)
Just when I thought Magnapop was dead they start playing a show here and there. And then they announce a new album. Mouthfeel is a really great album, everyone should have it along side their copy of Rubbing Doesn't Help and Hot Boxing. With alot of the crap music thats coming out today, this album has been really refreshing. The songs are good, but some of the vocals are a little to low. But this isn't a problem after listening to the album more than once. By the way, the band is getting ready to go on tour next month so go see them if you can.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Long Awaited Return, September 4, 2005

Magnapop's fourth album comes a full nine years after their last, 1996's patchy and overly produced Rubbing Doesn't Help. Thankfully there are no such problems here, in fact this might just be their finest yet. While there may not have been any great overhaul in the bands' formula they have honed their sound into pure pop perfection. The Husker Du-esque guitars are as tight as ever, Linda Hoppers sings with effortless charm undercut by Ruthie Morriss' girlband harmonies. A record for those summer evenings spent drinking with friends

4.0 out of 5 stars "The Whole Tooth", June 21, 2005

Right, I'm going to be very straightforward about Atalanta's Magnapop's third album. I LOVE IT!!!!. Its everything an indiepop album should have. Catchy as syphilis melodies, jangly guitars that go loud/quiet loud/quiet and a vocalist with a cute voice. Maybe I'm shallow and superficial but I really go for this kind of stuff. Each and every song is blasted with a sunshine goodness and the mood just gets more uplifting as the album progresses.
Lyrically it's typical indie.

Love and such oddities `California I can see it from the roof' (`California') or `Time well spent travelling, time well spent in-between' (`In-between'). I honestly swear that by the end of this album's half hour you'll want to strip and dance in a field with your arms wide open loving life and all that is created.
I can't really pick a highlight as its good all throughout. If you like the poppier element of Guided by Voices, Imperial Teen or Lush then this is the album for you. Hopefully when they perform at SXSW (alongside local heros `The Beangrowers') the audience will have to wear sunglasses cause these guys melodies are so damn bright! Actually coupled with The Beangrowers equally infectious tunes there will be some blindess!

I thought this CD was great! I think that it is one of the best purchases that I have made musically for awhile. The songs are catchy and the lead singer's voice is melodic.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Pop" this one into your player!, May 23, 2005

Holy Cow! I can't believe there has not been more fanfare for this release. Nine years between albums is way too long. This is the music you have been wanting to hear, playful, yet still having that hard, alternative edge to it. It's a shame that alternative music has gone the way of either demonic screaming or ignorant rapping, while groups like Magnapop suffer in ignonimy.
This album does suffer from a poor mix job, which is a shame, because this group certainly deserves much better. Support this group, buy the album, and maybe next time we will hear them in a format in which they are much more deserving.
