5.0 out of 5 stars Shake Your Money Maker
Like a lot of cool bands now, such as The Secret Machines, this band is from Texas. I caught this band live last year as an opener for Electric Six. They were actually nothing like that. They had more in common with The Darkness and The Datsuns. That means they are more into AC/DC that one would expect. The song "Mouthful of Love" is a full on burst of pure rock and roll...

2.0 out of 5 stars Echoes of AC/DC, The Who, Cheap Trick
Some times they recall the basic three chord crunch of Angus and company, at other times perhaps Joan Jett and the Blackhearts thanks to the presence of co-lead singer Jennifer Stephens, at the beginning of "Starlite" I'm thinking "The Who...".

What this DOESN'T have in common with those bands is: memorable hooks. There's no counterpart to "Dirty Deeds"...

They had more in common with The Darkness and The Datsuns. That means they are more into AC/DC that one would expect. The song "Mouthful of Love" is a full on burst of pure rock and roll. They have some relationship with that other band from Austin, Trail of Dead. They sound like many rock and roll bands except that they have two vocalists, male and female, Chris Hodge and Jennifer Stephens. "Starlite" starts out with the sound of The Who. The songs of Young Heart Attack are about having fun, pleasure, and taking life to the edge. This is about having a good time. Listening to this loud embraces the sonic power of rock.

4.0 out of 5 stars Misty Rowe would be proud and shakin' her Daisys!, May 13, 2004
This review is from: Mouthful Of Love (Audio CD)
If a high-energy movie comedy about high school/college stoners was being made (think a modern-day "Dazed and Confused", "Animal House", etc.), this band would be the first I'd pick and NOT any emo or faux punk stuff--at first listen these songs made me feel young again, like I was listening to Cheap Trick back in high school when "In Color" first hit the streets--the dual high-pitched (but semi-sweet, nasty and clear as Hell's bells) male/female vocals are a treat, the keyboards are just right and the guitarist is a MADMAN! My only suggestion for the next album is that the songs' structures could be tightened up a bit (probably by a more experienced producer), but for this, their 1st album, at least half the songs are bona-fide keepers and when is the last time you've said THAT about a record?

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Quality Rock from Young Heart Attack, June 3, 2005
This review is from: Mouthful Of Love (Audio CD)
This band just get better and better. I'm not going to repeat what the other reviews have said about Young Heart Attack's musical and vocal abilities. I've been going to rock gigs for almost 30 years and after seeing Young Heart Attack live in London, I just had to buy the album when it came out. It was well worth it. This album conveys the incredible energy of their songs magnificently.

If you want a modern up to date encapsulation of the quintessential essence of rock - This is it! Seminal influences can be recognised and if you know your Rock Pantheon you will pick up the cheeky little musical references. However, they just serve to inseminate the ova of Young Heart Attack's own original creativity. It is developed and incarnated and Young Heart Attack's music springs like a torrent of freshly spawned piranha instantly devouring any apathy or lassitude your soul may harbour.

This band deserve to make it big.
See them live for the Real Deal!!

5.0 out of 5 stars LOUD AND PROUD, January 11, 2006
This review is from: Mouthful Of Love (Audio CD)
These guys don't need to apologize for anything. big, loud simple rock riffs. Screaming vocals barely tamed by a sweet sounding second chick vocalist that has a big set of her own. I heard this on launchcast, and I was like "what the!?!?" I bought the album soon after.

There is no secrets to this music, it's all up front in your face. I think this is about as close as you may think they sound live. This is a band that sounds like their equipment might blow up soon. I am dead serious. I think the lead singers vocal chords sometimes flies out his mouth, and that's why they got the chick to sing with him, so he can stuff them back down his throat before the next line. Maybe he super glues them. I think velcro might be the way to go.

Look, I love AC/DC. I like bands that are influenced by them. YHA has their own chaotic sound but they got that 3 chord ripping rock I love. I am an old school rocker, but these guys are new school in your face.

I would invite this band to play at my church just to see if Jesus would show up and do a cage match battle with satan. ( remember..rock and roll is the devils music..) man, you wouldn't even have to PAY for that show..CHURCH IS FREE!

YHA rocking the presbyterians as good and evil fight? WOW.

5.0 out of 5 stars Holy Mackerel This Band Cooks!!!!!, February 8, 2005
This review is from: Mouthful Of Love (Audio CD)
Think of Fleetwood Mac minus the piano player.Oh yeah and instead of soft rock, they play fast paced rockers in the spirit of AC/DC and Motley Crue. Here we have another band taking part in the rock n roll revival. These guys pay homages to their influences(if you listen to the album there is no question who there main influence is)but without a doubt have carved out an identity of their own.Sure they got all the vintage-long haired riffs down and the talent, but what sets this band apart from their counterparts is their double lead singer attack.Geez does this sound so amazing. The guy's voice is almost "Steven Tyler-like" with a bit of punk attitude but not for one second does he sound like EMO(yuck!).The girl's voice is like the cherry on top of all the madness going on.I would compare her to Joan Jett with just a little bit of a higher voice. This whole album rocks but if I were to pick my fav,I would have to say "Misty Rowe".This song basically defines the band and what they can do and how much of a kick ass job they do doing it.Other standout songs for me are "Starlight","Mary Jane",and "El Camino".I really hope this band sticks around for a long time because they have so much potential and so much to offer.

So if you're into the whole rock n roll revival thing be sure to check out this amazing group, you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rock and Roll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, May 12, 2004
This review is from: Mouthful Of Love (Audio CD)
Young Heart Attack - Mouthful of Love

For their first album YHA really have pulled out all the stops because this really is one hell of a rock'n'roll roller coaster of an album. YHA hail from Texas and when listening to their album you really do get the feel that effortless Texan swagger.

One of the things that makes YHA so unique is that they have both a male and female vocalist. Instead of one singing half the songs and the other the other half, they take turns within most of the songs. Almost as if they are competing all the way through the song to see who can make the best rock and roll screeches. The end result is barrages of ferocious all-out rock songs such as "Over and Over" and "Starlite" which are quite simply brilliant.

Although the singles such as Tommy shots and Mouthful of love give the impression YHA is just a full out rock as hard as you can band. They also make sure you know they can kick back and slow it right down through songs such as the superb Mary Jane. Hopefully YHA will be around for a long time to come as they are exactly the kick up the back side rock and roll so badly needs. They have certainly set the benchmark high for their next album to live up to, but with what seems to be such an effortless and cracking album I believe they will.

If you like The Datsuns, The Darkness or Jet's debut efforts you will love this.

2.0 out of 5 stars Echoes of AC/DC, The Who, Cheap Trick, September 5, 2005
This review is from: Mouthful Of Love (Audio CD)
Some times they recall the basic three chord crunch of Angus and company, at other times perhaps Joan Jett and the Blackhearts thanks to the presence of co-lead singer Jennifer Stephens, at the beginning of "Starlite" I'm thinking "The Who...".

What this DOESN'T have in common with those bands is: memorable hooks. There's no counterpart to "Dirty Deeds" here...no "Baba O'Riley"....no "Dream Police". It SOUNDS good..but it doesn't stick in the head.

HIGHLIGHTS:
"Sick of Doing Time" musters the best hook here in "Hey hey hey/I was a bad one/Hey hey hey/I was a loaded gun..". An incendiary guitar solo later and you've got a great rocker. MC5's "Over and Over" is covered to AC/DC's "Dirty Deeds" lick more or less. A celebration of "Hee Haw" sexy simpleton "Misty Rowe" is also a winner.

LOWS:
Some of the most painful lyrics are found in "Starlite": (Ooooh, because your hot rod,go,go/Gonna riff-raff, downtown, rock show/Gonna run it tonight, gonna total tonight/Gonna rumble over my cool punk girl..". Ouch.

BOTTOM LINE:
You'd be better off buying the Jet CD...
