A wonder of childrens wisdom and vision,
By A Customer
This review is from: From the Mouths of Babes (Paperback)
We so often think of our children as needing wisdom from us. I bought this book because I work with children and I wanted to know better how to help them. I learned from this book how to help guide them and I also saw the amazing resources they carry with in their tender little beating hearts. This book is a wonder and will fill you with hope, pride and most importantly, a belief in our children and their great wisdom, strength and resiliency. This will warm you heart and fill you with pride for our young peaple. It has been wonderful for my class to read this too. It has opened up a great way to talk about fears as well as strengths.

This is a lovely collection of children's heartfelt reactions to the tragedy of September 11, 2001. It will serve as an excellent tool to help kids and adults put their own feelings in order. It covers the gamut of emotions and bravely includes humor. Who could say it better than this four-year-old writing to God: "Please help us and the people with their owies."

From the Mouths of Babes is pure heart and spirit transcended onto the printed page. Each word, a morsel of pure delight and heart-warming sustenance. I have gained much insight into my own journey back to 'innocence' and have felt the present journey of the many contributors.

Compelling project!!,

This review is from: From the Mouths of Babes (Paperback)
When my son brought home a flyer from school, he was eager to participate in this project. The assignment: for children to write down their thoughts about what happened on September 11th, 2001. My son is an avid reader/writer, but had no idea that his entry would eventually be published, nor of the positive ramifications of the book itself. This is a very emotionally charged, compelling collage of children's thoughts. Without pride, predudice or experience, these tikes have shown their hearts on their sleeves. I immediately ordered 10 copies which we have given away as presents... and most of the recipients have asked for more! This is a real page turner, and eye opener. We adults should take heed of the lesson these children so inocently (and yet eloquently) put into words. After learning that proceeds will go to help orphaned children of 9/11, my son said "I had no idea that what I did was so important". But this can't happen unless we spread the word.

Children's Feelings, Children's Voices,

I was deeply moved reading this collection of children's statements about the tragedy of 9/11. Children are seldom listened to when adults are anguished. We owe Wendy Keller much gratitude for this powerful, heartfelt record of children's feelings and children's voices.

This book made me laugh and it made me cry.,

I didn't realize how numb I was after 9-11 but this book touched a place in me that nothing else has been able to reach and it helped restore my faith in the future of this country. I love the innocence and honesty of the little boy who said, "I was so scared when I saw those towers fall down on TV, I took off my socks." This book is an easy read and I didn't put it down until I read it from cover to cover. I needed that patriotic purity, the clairty and honesty of human emotion that comes from the Mouths of Babes. On 9-11, I think I took off my socks too and I sat on the end of my couch with a blanket wrapped around me all day and I felt nothing except rage. This book doesn't have the rage I felt. It is filled with the genuine caring that children are capable of expressing, "Dear God, put a band aid on all the hurt people." Well, this book put a band aid on my aching hurt and I've been deeply touched by it's message. It helped my own healing process. I still feel rage but at least I'm wearing socks again.

What a beautiful book!,

This book is a terrific collection of essays from children ages 4-18, all talking about September 11. When I got it, I thought it would be sad and depressing, but there were SO many cute stories in it! Some of the kids said the funniest things - like the boy who took off his socks or the one who was worried about his dog peeing on the rug! I really feel like I got a whole perspective on how kids are thinking here. Several schools around here have been reading the book in their classes and it seems to be helping the students of all ages. We bought five copies for our library and they have a waiting list for checkout. It's a tastefully done project and I really like it that the money from the book is going to a scholarship for kids whose parents got hurt in NYC or DC. Great book!
