i bought this watch at a movado store in my town, at a significant price reduction. i was given a gold ring with my family crest in the stone and it was so at odds with my other watch that i decided to buy a gold watch but i decided if i was gunna buy gold to buy real gold, not a gold-look. so i broused nordstroms, macys, and jewlers in the two local malls. i always wanted a tag. but they didnt make any solid gold ones, just two tone, and when i say solid not entirely gold, as my fathers watch, but gold plated, in all gold. with the gold prices what they are per ounce a solid gold watch is un-attainable. this however was a great buy at just below the thousand mark pre-tax. the box i recieved with mine is different, but i like it better. it is a light watch, relatively, i can only compare it to a citizen nighthawk, and the enormous nixon 51-30 that i also own. nixon is all black. the citizen is silver. and now this is my real gold watch. it is not a flashy thing as u might expect. it rather is understated, very simple face. very thin on ur skin, and doesnt glisten as much as i would have expected, its a very nice watch without being overdone. simple, classic and well made. its perfect for what i wanted, a gold watch.shows slight scratches easily, due to the nature of smooth gold, as opposed to stainless steel is more of a matte finish, gold is polished so it shows little scratches from normal wear. also finger prints remain evident.

Every Movado watch is a piece of practical and functional artwork, particularly the company's "Museum" watches. In many ways, these are the "classic" Movado watches, with their distinctive numeral-less round faces and disc in the "12" position.Unlike Rolexes which, although quality products, suffer from grotesque overexposure on the wrists of Yuppies, Movados are still understated, chic, and reasonably priced. As an attorney, I have had new clients exclaim, "I was afraid you'd be wearing a Rolex!" but nobody has anything but compliments for my Movado, which does not scream "narcissistic overindulgence!" from across a room. Rolexes are great watches too, so it's a shame they've developed a negative image. Movado backs their product. When I had a little trouble with the wristband clasp on mine and took it to the Movado store, they not only fixed the broken clasp but put the watch through a checklist of standard tests, where it was discovered that the waterproofing gasket had been damaged (probably by a careless flea market jeweler who changed the battery at one point). Off went the watch to the Movado factory. When it was returned ten days later, I got back a watch that was literally as good as new (and yes, it WAS mine, which had been personally engraved), along with a lecture on how I should ALWAYS send my watch to Movado for servicing. For customers who live nowhere near a Movado store, the company maintains a very effective mail-in service. My watch is this very same "Esperanza" model with the sinature black face, gold hands and gold disc. I find the contrast easier to read than on white-faced models, but whatever you prefer, and whether you are a man or a woman, you will be buying a quality product that your great grandchild might very possibly choose to wear on his or her wedding day. |
