Book Description

December 4, 2007
Are you a Driver, a Collaborator, an Organizer or a Visionary? Read Ginny Whitelaw's Move to Greatness: Focusing the Four Essential Energies of a Whole and Balanced Leader to find out.Unbalanced energy patterns create the ineffective buts in leadership style and personal performance. Leaders need to know how to use their strengths and overcome their own barriers. Both success and failure originate in the use or misuse of four fundamental patterns that have been studied over decades: the Driver, the Collaborator, the Organizer and the Visionary. When they are in balance, these patterns create wholly effective leaders who can achieve peak performance. In Move to Greatness, author Ginny Whitelaw explains these four essential energy patterns, revealing the strengths and weaknesses of each. Using these patterns as a map, leaders will discover their natural preferences and learn how to understand people and to lead them more effectively - realizing how to literally move themselves and others to newfound greatness. Finally, a tool and approach that makes intuitive, practical and theoretical sense. - David Dotlich, Founding Partner at Delta Executive Learning Center; author of Why CEOs Fail, Unnatural Leadership, and Head, Heart and GutsContentsAcknowledgmentsIntroduction: Your Guide to the Patterns1 Enter the Patterns2 Discover Your Winning Way3 Push into the Driver4 Step into the Organizer5 Swing into the Collaborator6 Drift into the Visionary7 Pick a Barrier, Break Through8 Lead in Ways Others Can Follow9 Move Teams and Organizations to Greatness10 Engage as a Whole and Balanced LeaderAppendix I FEBI Validation and Connection to Other ModelsAppendix II Additional ResourcesEndnotesAbout the AuthorsIndex

5.0 out of 5 stars The Body-Personality Connection, March 9, 2008
This review is from: Move to Greatness: Focusing the Four Essential Energies of a Whole and Balanced Leader (Paperback)
Human beings have wanted to understand "personality types" (their own and others')for thousands of years. Even though there are thousands of typing methods out there, the approach by Whitelaw/Wetzig is the only one I know of that doesn't stop at the neck, i.e. doesn't think personality is only of the mind. Turns out: how we are wired is indeed anchored in our nervous system; behaviors don't only originate in the mind. Many of us seek to be more well-rounded persons or leaders by trying to just change our behaviors, so we find that we are pitting ourselves against (deep resistance in) ourselves. Instead, here is a deeper way to work with the whole person, through movement, chosen environments and other very accessible, daily routines. As an example, the behavioral, mental and emotional shifts I have recently observed in a hard-charging executive, whom I coach, after he added flexibility, stretching and elongation exercises (at a Gyrotonic studio) to our work, totally confirms the powerful message of "Move to Greatness."

This review is from: Move to Greatness: Focusing the Four Essential Energies of a Whole and Balanced Leader (Paperback)
Four mind/body patterns help bring balance to your life. Discover your strengths and weaknesses and how to address and overcome your weak patterns through physical and mental exercises. This book is very readable - filled with interesting anecdotes on well-known leaders, and helpful charts and graphics. I have been working with the material for several years. It is great that Betsy and Ginny finally put all this highly valuable and practical information in a book!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is viral!, February 13, 2008

This review is from: Move to Greatness: Focusing the Four Essential Energies of a Whole and Balanced Leader (Paperback)
Imagine this: a business book that resonates as much for your personal life as for your professional one. And why not? We want to be whole people, not just whole leaders. But beware: this book is viral! Once you read Move to Greatness, you want your partners -- in business, in life -- to read it too. It offers insights that are smart, that are real, that need to be shared. It's a smart book that is imminently readable!
