I miss Donna Fargo,

Every Donna Fargo record that she made was very worth while. The 2 cd's represented here. "On The Move" and "Just For You" are both good cd's. "On The Move" was an excellent cd, one of my favorite of all her albums. I would give this half of the cd 5 stars. She was in top form, the productions was excellent and the songs a mixture of her originals and a couple of well chosen cover songs. People sometimes forget that she was such a good singer and songwriter. The second half of the CD, "Just For You" was less satisfying. I would give this half only 3 stars. There were a couple of excellent songs, mostly "Walk On By" (a cover song), and songs that are almost horrible; "Preacher Berry" is a good example of that. She liked recitation songs, but this one didn't work. Donna Fargo was a wonderful singer, I can't wait until more of her stuff is released on cd.

What a pleasure it is to finally have these gems on CD. These 2 cd showcase Donna's versatility. You have a little Country, some Pop and Gospel. "Just for you" is my all time favorite of Donna's cd's. These song sound as fresh today as they did back in the 70's. All of Donna's fans should add this one to your collection!

Overproduced but Still Better than Today's Country,

I love Donna Fargo. Here's the situation with these CDs. Most of the songs are extremely overproduced with horns, loud background singers, strings, drums...any instrument you can think of. Donna's voice gets lost in the shuffle in many of the cuts (Walk on By being the best example). The production works on some of the songs but for the most part, the gloss is too much. I admire the depth of Fargo's writing and wish she had done more on these projects, like she did when she first started out.
"Walk on By" was released as a single. But it is a prime example of a classic song trying to be given a new twist in Donna's style. But its an overproduced miss which is too bad. "Daddy" was released as a single and is prime DOnna stuff. Other highlights are "The Utah Song", "Mr. Doodles" and "Preacher Berry". But these albums have long been out of circulation and I'm glad they're back on. Donna is that rarity of performer who can write and sing her own compositions with an emotion, depth and feeling that is incomparable to ANY of today's artists. Compared to today's travesties put out by Reba, Faith, Martina and the rest of the bubblegum queens, Donna's work is classic!! I'll take the overproduction over today's makeshift mess of "country???" any day.
